  1. I watched it the other night. I was in NYC at the time of the filming so knew some of the dancers. Always fun to watch!
  2. She staged Swan Lake Act 2 when I was in Milwaukee Ballet. She intimidated me with her yelling!
  3. I just filled it out with my correct info to gain access to site....
  4. Beautiful! When I was at Pa Ballet, they performed his Adagio Hammerklavier and Grosse Fuge. Loved them both- love his style.
  5. I went to him in the 70's to decide between him and ABT's orthopedist for my first knee surgery. I should have gone with Dr. Hamilton since the other did not do a good job......4 knee surgeries later including a replacement.
  6. She was a student of mine for a while. Shocking events.
  7. One of my former students is in it. I watched it on my tv today and wished they would have filmed a lot closer. Great Balanchine ballet.
  8. Alison Remmers was a student of mine many years ago. Sorry I missed it! Are they showing it again?
  9. I watched the Dutch National Ballet Han Van Manen Part 1 last night. I had seen many years ago and many times Pa Ballet perform Adagio Hammerkavier. The dancers are great. Some are not with the company anymore. I did have trouble with the streaming stopping and starting, etc. I wish more companies in the US would perform more of his works. Looking forward to HVM part 2.
  10. Saw it at the theater today. Never saw the full length Raymonda. I'm partial to Balanchine's Raymonda Variations. The theater was fairly full but unfortunately, there were hardly any ballet students. The audience is mostly made up of older Russians who don't look like dancers! There was an almost missed lift with Olga but he held onto her. She bobbled a left pirouette near the beginning. I thought some of the lighting was too dark. Overall, enjoyed it. I wish Russians wouldn't stop the continuity of the performance with bows after almost every solo or pas.
  11. I wish he would add some Balanchine. I saw them do Tchai Pas last season. I'm not going to spend money on a ticket so see a bunch of new works- I have been in the business of dancing professionally and teaching since the 70's and I know what I like and what I don't. I don't have the money to just go to support the ballet.
  12. I do not like their upcoming season at all. It is too contemporary for me. Before I moved to this area, I taught at Sarasota Ballet which had a nicely mixed rep of Ashton, Balanchine, classics, and some modern. I miss S Ballet. I like a lot of the dancers in Atlanta but don't plan to see hardly any of their programs next season....
  13. I had to retire in my 20's due to injuries and surgery. It was the most difficult time of my life. I stayed away from anything about dance, it hurt too much. A couple of years later, I started taking barre again and ended up starting to teach at a company school. That was 1980- and I am still teaching after 5 knee surgeries, 2 hip replacements, and 1 recent hip replacement revision!
  14. I enjoyed it as well. Lots of Russians in the audience and no ballet students which is terrible! When I went to Don Q a bit ago, movie stopped before the pas and they couldn't get it going again so got our money back. Wonder if that happened at all the theatres. They said it was a transmission problem....
  15. In the brochure it says with Atlanta Ballet Orchestra.
  16. I am a former professional ballet dancer so I am really picky when I see ballet performances. I have been teaching at pre pro schools since 1980 so I have involved with ballet for a very long time! I just moved to the Atlanta area a year ago so this was only the 2nd time I saw them perform. I went to the Sat night performance. We sat up in the mezzanine and I was sorry to see it wasn't very crowded. I did like the Kylian piece- interesting lifts and I thought the dancers looked good. I was looking forward to the Balanchine especially since this is the only ballet they will be doing of his the whole year. I saw Jessica He and a new dancer, Ivan Tarakanov. Technically they were fine, but just didn't have the Balanchine attack. I don't know if it was the coaching or what....The fish dive at the end was not a dive- way too safe. I moved from Sarasota and used to teach there and they did a lot of Balanchine with Sandy Jennings setting the ballets. I think it would have been more authentic if she had coached them. He is a left turner so did all pirouettes, etc to the left. She was lovely, but I missed the Balanchine style. I was in NYC in the 70's and saw McBride and Villella and Violette Verdy perform this all the time..... Did not particularly like the piece the Czech dancers performed but I am not into modern pieces. My boyfriend enjoyed that the best- he has no dance experience. I saw Jessica Assef and Nikolas Gaifullin in Don Q. I saw her last season in Swan Lake and thought she was terribly boring in the role. Same with this- not much "flair" but technique ok. He is a fireball. I liked him last season too and he is from Sarasota! Last piece I didn't like except for appreciating the dancers. A lot of it was- done that already like Drew said. Even if I don't like the choreography, I can enjoy the dancers. When the music started it wasn't too loud but when the violin concerto and Capriccioso started, it was ear splitting. Miss having an orchestra. Don't like most of the rest of the season but will probably go to La Sylphide. Can't handle another Nut and there are quite a few modern pieces coming up during the year which I don't want to see. I do miss the rep of Sarasota Ballet.
  17. I posted about the Sat night performance but I posted in the next season Atlanta.
  18. Went to Black Swan Sat. night. Odile, Jessica Assef, was technically good but lacked character. Pretty much no acting so I wasn't too thrilled. Her Siegfried was Nikolas Gaifullin who I thought was very good- young and great technique. Did not like the Neopolitan Dance. When I was at Pa Ballet years ago, they did Neopolitan on pointe and it was hard and fun. My roommate performed that role and said it was difficult. I didn't like it being the first dance out of order. Remembrance I enjoyed mostly. Nice to have live music but don't think the music was great for the choreography. The dancers looked good and I liked the changing lighting. This was the first time I was in this theater and sight lines were good. I was near the back in the mezzanine. Looking forward to more Atl Ballet performances.
  19. I will post after seeing the performance Sat. night.
  20. Moved to Atlanta a few months ago and will be going to Black Swan this Sat. night. Never have seen the company, so anxious to go.
  21. I didn't like RAD that he taught and he used same music and same combinations whatever day it was. He had his favorite students, I was not one of them. He said some really mean things to students- all junior and senior high kids. Made me stronger when I became professional.
