  1. I know about the student discounts except most of them are on Thursdays and I live in a suburb of Houston. So the mother is not very happy about me staying out late on a school night. Either way, the Houston Ballet telemarketers keep stalking me and i'm thinking about maybe buying a subscription, but if only a few ballets are really worth seeing, then I think just buying the tickets on their own is more worth it. Also, I'm thinking of taking the not-really-into-ballet boyfriend (who saw Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella earlier with me and loved it, or so he says), if that makes the decision any harder. Hehe. So I kinda want to show him something with a bit of "pyrotechnics" to jolt his interest a little more. Thanks for the suggestions, though!
  2. I have a question: I'm a ballet student, so money is a little on the short side. :sweating: Needless to say, I still want to see the ballet. Which ones should I opt for, besides Giselle? (Romeo and Juliet, The Firebird...?)
  3. Upon second watching, I realized that i was literally fast-forwarding through everything except maybe Light Rain and Creative Force. No replay value whatsoever. And where was the SWAN LAKE? Either way, I have a question. i didn't get to see the name of the DVD chapter for this ballet, but what is the ballet that the Ballet Man (that's what I call them because I don't know the real name) mocking Mr. A is talking about when he says, "This ballet is about SEX and DROPPING ACID and SMOKING A LOT OF POT" (not verbatim, but y'know). I can't seem to find the name of this piece on the Joffrey website.
  4. A Side Note: I rented The Company on DVD (Thank you, Netflix) and I wanted to let everyone who hated the non-dancing clips of the movie know that there is a "Special Feature" that allows you to view only the dancing clips. And, Blue Snake wasn't that bad, mainly because of the scene where the company made fun of it themselves.
  5. No, i've already read that thread. I meant which pas de deux(s) corresponded to which songs of Davidsbundlertanze. I used to play the piano and subsequently have a million piano CDs lying around. After seeing the short clip of Farrell and d'Amboise dancing Davidsbundlertanze in Elusive Muse, I thought, "Oh, I have that album." and started listening to it. I was wondering which couple danced to which song, not who danced whose part in revivals of the ballet. ie. I think Farrell and d'Amboise did a pas de deux to "Innig" off of the album...opus...whatever.
  6. Out of curiosity, which partners danced which parts of Davidsbundlertanze? From watching Elusive Muse, I think Farrell and d'Amboise danced Innig...(maybe), but what did everyone else dance?
  7. The Cinderella performance was wonderful. I saw it on the 15th. Apparently I went on a good day because the girl who danced Cinderella (Julie Gumbinner?) was engaged that day. I didn't see the third act, though. It was getting kind of late and the boyfriend and I decided to go home. Either way, don't get lawn seats in the back (get either real seats or get there early for the front of the lawn). So many little children and obnoxious standing adults made me want to scream.
  8. So, my high school staged "Blood Wedding" by Frederico Garcia Lorca for competition last week. I saw the play and was mesmerized. I thought to myself, "When I become a big famous choreographer, I'm gonna use the play as a libretto for a ballet." Lo and behold, I'm too late. My question is: Has anyone actually seen it? Whether it be the Sadler Well's version (I think they were the ones who originally did it) or ABT or whomever. I was wondering if it maybe lived up to the play itself. That and if there's maybe a copy of the ballet on VHS or something...?
