  1. Sorry this is such a late reply. I've been so busy with the end of school, and end of year concerts. I will be going to see 'Sleeping Beauty' when it is in Adelaide. (I've already got the tickets, they came out nearly straight away, which is a bit suprising) I'm looking foward to it. I've never seen 'Sleeping Beauty' so I hope it will be good. I like Stanton Welch's work so I think it will be. It sound's like the story line will be changed slightly - with Aurora fighting the evils of light and darkness. I'll try and find my Dance Australia mag with this information. I'm also looking forward to 'White', if I can make it to Melbourne (I'm completing my final year of school, so I'm not sure how it will go..) I love 'Suite en Blanc'. I'm curious to see Adrian Burnett's work, not having the chance to see 'Red Hot and New' (I really must move to Melbourne or Sydney..) I've read mixed reviews for him, and would love to form my own opinion soon. I wish I could get to see 'La Sylphide' Lisa Bolte is returning to play the main character, and I never got to see her dance live. It seems I picked the wrong year to start ballet (I started in 2003, and dancers such as Lisa, and Justine all retired before that..)
  2. In December last year it was announced that the following artist would be promoted to soloist: Danielle Rowe,Christopher White, Tristan Message, Matthew Donnelly. and the following to coryphee: Leanne Stojmenov, Natalie Hill, Gina Brescianini, Timothy Farrar. I'm so happy to see Danielle and Gina doing so well in the company. Danielle is from Adelaide (my home town), and my favourite dancer, she is becoming an amazing artist, and it's nice to see the tall girls getting somewhere. Gina was a beautiful 'Young Duchess to be' and she is also really growing into her self. Amber Scott also won the 2004 Telstra Young Dancer of the Year award, and the People's Choice Award. She really deserved it. I saw her debut as Odette in Graeme Murphy's 'Swan Lake' last year, when she was still a corps de ballet member (she got promoted due to her incredible performance). Not only did she do well with the steps, she even had the emotion going. All the people around me were crying, and David McAllister (Artist Director, he sat behind me in the last act) looked very happy with her work. We've had a few Scholarships: NSW Friends Scholarship: Leanne Stojmenov Diana Ramsay Scholarship: Danielle Hunt DianaRamsay/George Garrett Scholarship: Ailsa Woodyard Lisa Black Memorial Scholarship: Danielle Rowe Freda Irving/Maurice Sullivan Scholarship: Paul Knobloch New Members in the company are Dana Stephensen, Tzu-Chao Chou, Robyn Hendricks and Rudy Hawkes, from the Australian Ballet School, and Jacob Sofer from the Royal New Zealand ballet. Jacob was a 2002 grauate from the ABS. Lisa Bolte a former principal artist is returning to dance in the 'La Sylphide' seasons. And my congratulations to Madeleine Eastoe and Tim Harbour who were married in December and to Graeme Murphy and Janet Vernon, who also got married last year. Also congratulations to Kirsty Martin and Damien Welch who are expecting their first baby in April. (I would give you the link to this news release if the AB site was working ) All of this is from the Australian Ballet Society Inc
  3. Thanks for the review, I'm seeing Swan Lake in Melbourne, as I didn't get to see it in Adelaide when it was here. I personally am more of a Lucinda Dunn fan (I met her last night after La Fille Mal Gardee, she was beautiful both in La Fille, and outside when I met her, and I got a photo with her). Lynette comes off really cold to me, and she was extremly rude to a friend of mine, so thats kind of put me off her. chauffeur, do you know if Danielle Rowe was dancing, and if she was what role? It will be interesting to see how Annabel Bronner Reid takes her role as the baroness, she's a beautiful dancer, but I can't picture her as the baroness for some reason.
  4. The Australian Ballet took theirs off But I have two sites that have them. Nicole Rhodes Nicole used to be a prinicaple with the AB, she left at the end of last year. Lucinda Dunn Lucinda is currently a Principal with the AB.
  5. Susanne, Thank you very much! I really don't know what else to say but thanks! ~Nicci
  6. My favourite dancer Nicole Rhodes(ex-Australian Ballet prinicipal) recently guested with the Royal Swedish Ballet, and I heard that she is joining the company, now that she has left the Australian Ballet, if this is true is it possible for any one to keep me informed with what roles she dances as I run her Unofficial Site. I would be so grateful, and I hope anyone who gets the chance to see her dance, loves her as much as I do. Thanks in advance (I hope this is the right place to post this? If not please move it) ~Nicci

    Li Cunxin

I'm from Australia, where the book has been out since around September (I believe). I only recently got the book as an early christmas present, and it has to be one of the best dance autobiographies (sp) I've ever read. It's worth getting if you can. I hope that everyone enjoys it as much as I did
  8. Does anyone know what role Nicole Rhodes is playing? Anyone who sees her dance please tell me what she was like, she is a really amazing dancer. Robert Curran isn't to bad either ;)

    Alida Belair

I did a search, and I havent really come up with anything except this which is probley in the book: -Alida Belair was born in 1944 in the south of France, where her parents were in hiding from the Nazis. Her family emigrated to Australia in 1949. She began studying ballet at the age of six, and joined the Borovansky Ballet Academy a year later. At the age of eleven she was chosen to play her first major role, with the Borovansky Ballet with whom she toured Australia over the following four years. In 1962, at the age of eighteen, Alida travelled to Moscow, where she became the first Australian dancer to study with the Bolshoi Ballet Company. After her studies were interrupted by the Cuban missile crisis she went on to London, where she became a guest artist with the London ballet, the principal ballerina with Ballet Rambert. In 1966 she moved to the United States, where she danced with several prominent ballet companies including the American Ballet Theatre. Sorry I wasnt much help.

    Sarah Pease

I know this is an old thread, so I hope you don't mind me bringing it back up but I found a small bio on Sarah... Sarah was born in Canberra and studied with the National Capital Dancers. In 1995 she joined the Queensland Ballet, performing both nationally and internationally for 3 years. Sarah moved to Melbourne in 1998 to dance with The Australian Ballet Company. White with the company the highlights were travelling and performing in America, New Zealand and China. Sarah had the pleasure of working with many inspirational choreographers such as Kiri Kylian, Graeme Murphy, Natalie Weir, Stephen Baynes and Stephen Page. She also performed works by William Forsythe and Nacho Duato.

  12. Don't know if you guys know this but: Australian Ballet School graduate Vivienne Wong has joined the corps (thats kinda old news) Matthew Lawrence has been promoted to Senior Artist Annabell Bronner Reid to Soloist Camilla Vergotis,Danielle Rowe, Craig Cathcart and Paul Knobloch to corypee. And Rachel Dougherty has left. The Beyond 40 book is EXCELLENT! I own it and love it to bits. And thats about it.
