  1. thanks for the info. sorry for rules infraction.
  2. hi everyone, i ve returned to copenhagen again, after a year in china. missed NYCB in september (at tivoli), but did catch opening night of the balanchine martins programme. i ve only now looked at some of the posts here and am surprised at how lively the exchange is. i can't really add anything of substance, i ve gone almost 2 years without watching ballet, so this opening night was a thrill (except for martins). is there also an opportunity to meet other ballet fans who live in copenhagen, watch performances together and discuss them over hylleblomst? i have a very busy schedule, so i would appreciate keeping up with ballet or dance through an informal group - anyone aware of good modern dance classes by the way?

  4. hi everyone, i moved to copenhagen two months ago, and have started exploring ballet and city life here. i found that socializing is a bit difficult and for that reason have decided to organize an event for expatriates living in Copenhagen, but of course also for any interested Danish people - we are still setting up date and location, but I wanted to give a heads up to any of you ballet fans who might want to attend. It would be a very good opportunity to meet some of copenhagen's dance enthusiasts. Please feel free to email me if you want more information or just check this thread for more details shortly! If you would like to help out in organizing, just send me an email. at mailto: vanessar@jubii.dk
  5. alright, i will try that, there is a gala coming up in fact. i will take binoculars and wear a tshirt saying: looking for the ballet fan crowd :-)
  6. the onegin performance was the first i caught here in DK...and i was impressed with it. i was also impressed with the queen who happened to attend that afternoon. it took me a while to figure out why everyone is standing up and sitting down again. After watching NYCB for years, european dance always appears less strong and confident to me - i can't help it. The dancing is frequently good, but i miss that sharp, self-confident flouting of strength and technique that you get at NYCB: I took a friend to see them in Athens last year, and she was mesmerized. she said she did not know ballet could be like that. it looks totally different, she said.
  7. hi there, i am a ballet goer and doer and i have moved to copenhagen just recently (2 weeks ago). I used to live in NY and frequented NYCB, obviously, and I am looking to get involved in the dance scene in copenhagen. i found two schools for dancing, move and dance dk, but is there any community or forum or meeting place for ballet lovers? also, how do you make friends with the danes :-) generally it seems rather difficult, but i may just be on a NY tempo!!
  8. it probably is a cultural issue as well, whether to boo or to sit out a performance. having attended performances in quite a few parts of the world (including north america, china and europe), i generally would say it is a matter of cultural attitudes...someone mentioned in one of the posts how fascinating a strong "theatrical" response can be - loud, over the top booing is probably taken less seriously in a country like italy, by both audience and performer and seen more as an act of participation in the artistic discourse that is being established. In germany wild shouting at the end of a performance ís likely to be regarded as offensive behaviour. Personally i enjoy the italian way. i think if it is understood on both sides - performer and spectator - that this is a dynamic, enjoyable ritual with a spark of good humour all around, then booing is acceptable...and i would say it adds a lot of passion to the discussion, which is only to be encouraged.;)
