  2. Quick update about today's matinee. During The Four Seasons, Erica Pereira slipped and fell, but picked herself up and continued on in Winter. Taylor Stanley, however, seemed to injure himself in Summer. He stumbled out of a turn (I think) and then went off stage. He came back to partner Emilie Gerrity at the end of the movement, but did not reappear in the Finale. I hope nothing too serious happened. Also in my opinion Huxley had no issues partnering Hyltin in Spring. Loved the new, young cast in Fancy Free!
  3. I attended both performances on Saturday. I'll write more later, but Drew I also saw Scheller fall during the Choleric section. Overall a wonderful day of performances, and count me in as one of the few who enjoyed The Times are Racing for both the music and choreography (although, I agree it needs some edits). More later...
  4. The video is also on the Kennedy Center's youtube channel. I wonder how many tambourines they go through whenever they perform/rehearse Tarantella? I am excited to see both performances on Saturday!
  5. Actually Anthony Huxley replaced Andrew Veyette in the Saturday matinee, and he was amazing! His ballon and the clearness of his beats were impressive. I could have wished for some more expressiveness in his acting, but overall he was a wonderful James. Indiana Woodward was lovely as well and has quite a bright future ahead of her. The supporting cast (Shumacher, King, and Muller) were superb as well! I thought the Divertissements started off a little stiff among the corps, but overall ended on a positive note. I've always felt Flower Festival works best when the dancers are believable as young lovers. Teresa Reichlen did an excellent job in this aspect and in the dancing, but when looking at Ask La Cour, he clearly is a mature adult male on stage.
  6. Tonight, February 23rd, at 7:30 PM there is a live webcast of the cast and creative team in performance and conversation at WXQR. Here's the link to the stream: http://www.wqxr.org/#!/story/video-webcast-american-paris-preview/
  7. I was also at Sunday's matinee and agree with Eileen; Russell Janzen does need to be more confident and project authority in his solos, but he definitely has a lot of potential. His lines with Teresa Reichlin were absolutely gorgeous in the pas de deux and I hope this will be a partnership that continues to develop. In Emeralds I thought Sara Mearns started a little tight (her shoulders seemed high) but she quickly relaxed into the music and promptly stole the show.
  8. With only 2 days to go before the start of the Olympics, here is a particularly apt video for this board: http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/art-ice-russias-passion-ballet-and-figure-skating Interviews not only with Tamara Moskvina, but also Keenan Kampa and the dean of the Bolshoi School, whose name I have completely blanked on at the moment.
  9. A number of the dance-related programs were seen this past weekend at the Grand Prix of France. Elena I. and Nikita K. of Russia with their Swan Lake program pulled off an unexpected upset by finishing ahead of Nathalie P. and Fabian B. of France in France to get the silver with Virtue and Moir taking gold. The Russians: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBDWI0SnbLA Virtue and Moir's Seasons, not perfect here, but on its way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xCHeotq0h4 And for sheer entertainment and joy, Jason Brown's bronze medal long program to Riverdance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY0WJ8PZD94
  10. I remember in one of the articles about the series (possibly the Wall Street Journal article) it was mentioned that because of contract issues they could not film the performances during the Fall season in the theater. I loved watching the series. And every Tuesday and Friday in November they will keep adding extra videos. For example, today a video was added with Sarah Jessica Parker interviewing Peter Martins.
  11. I'm really excited about this news. Between Stoman's A Little Dancer and Wheeldon's An American in Paris, hopefully there will be some interesting choreography and dancing on Broadway in 2014. Here is some footage of Leanne Cope rehearsing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3vHgPUGN1Y In my opinion she bears a slight physical resemblance to Leslie Caron.
  12. I attended yesterday's matinee which included performances of Carousel, Glass Pieces, and Vienna Waltzes. I do not have much time at the moment to go into all of my impressions of a great afternoon of beautiful performances from the dancers, but I was hoping if some of you could elucidate a question I have about Vienna Waltzes: what is the point of Explosions-Polka? Is it meant to be a bit of comic relief? Or is there some history of the polka or Vienna that I am unaware about? Thanks!
  13. My friends and I managed to get some of the MyTix tickets the Kennedy Center offered for the Saturday matinee, so we will be sitting in rows V and W in Orchestra Right. Having not been to the Kennedy Center before, my friends and I are also wondering how we should dress. Is it like the New York State Theater and other Broadway houses where there is a great range, or is it more formal at the Kennedy Center?
  14. Thank you kfw and Natalia for your advice! It is much appreciated. Do either of you know if the sides of the Orchestra have obstructed views of the stage, beyond the misfortune of sitting behind someone tall? Thanks, again!
  15. I am planning to see NYCB when they come to the Kennedy Center in March. My friends and I will go to the Saturday matinee on March 30th when NYCB will perform Glass Pieces, Carousel, and Vienna Waltzes. I have never been to the Kennedy Center so I would love if any of you could give me some advice on seating. My friends and I are graduate students, so ticket prices are a factor. What I would like to know is what are the advantages/disadvantages of sitting in $49 orchestra seats vs. the $49 first or second tier vs. $40 second tier for this group of ballets? Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks!
