Hi!

I suspect that she may have gotten a fellowship, which sometime goes to an older dancer-dancers like Seth Belliston, Carlos Acosta, Gonzalo Garcia, Jared Angle, Alexandra Ansanelli and Miranda Weese have all gotten fellowships later in their careers.

Hi -

Rachel Tess is Excellent! Actually, her Princess Grace is for an emphasis on her modern and contemporary work, rather than classical ballet, and was a tribute to Mr. Harkarvy who truly mentored and championed Rachel upon her entrance to Juilliard. She has also worked in studio with Lar Lubovitch in preparation for his recently performed ...smile with my heart, set to Marvin Laird's Fantasie on Themes by Richard Rodgers for ABT's 2002 City Center run.

Fellow (and younger) School of OBT alum, Angela Snow, won the Chris Hellman in 2000. (Won this year by: ABT's David Hallberg.)

Jennie Somogyi received the "Princess Grace Statute, given to a past award recipient at least ten years after their initial Princess Grace Award." Funny note - also given this year in the Film division to: Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants!

>> Congratulations to Mr. Harkarvy.

>> Where would we be without these dedicated teachers?

True. Congrats now to Mr. Rhodes and the amazing staff of the dance division at Juilliard, who have carried the torch since Mr. H's passing in March.

DYK: Amber Merkens, a 2001 Princess Grace winner for modern, is also from Oregon? She's a former student of Nancy Mittleman in Newport, went to Juilliard, then Limón, and is now with Mark Morris.

We're not as moldy as people think! :D
