The number with the snake charmer-fakir is in the new-old version at the same place where it was in the old production.

The music for the golden idol is the Persian March from Le Papillon by Minkus.

Yes, of course you are correct Marc. I was writing from memory and it's a long time since I saw that production. So. presumably, Makarova simply expanded the dance and gave it to the bayaderes rather than to Solor's faithful follower. But I still think it's interesting that in either form it should contain such clear elements of a traditional dance from the Indian sub-continent. Shows what a tireless little researcher M. Petitpa was I guess.

That Golden Idol music must be the only piece of music Minkus ever wrote in 5/4!

Actually the number in Makarovas version is to the music of the Pugni interpolation and not the snake charmer music.

Alexandra (or anybody)-

I was wondering if you (or anyone else) had the same type of info on the Kirovs reconstruction of Sleeping Beauty similar to the press kit thing you posted about thier new/old Bayadere....sort of a number by number list like the Bayadere one. It would be cool to read about!
