Members of the Mark Morris Dance Group perform the world premiere of "Kolam", part of Yo-Yo Ma,s Silk Road Project. The Project, a research, performance and educational initiative founded in 1998 by Ma, is designed to illuminate the cultural and musical traditions of the Silk Road, the ancient network of trade routes that connected East Asia to Europe. "Through the Silk Road Project we are striving to bring new ideas, talent and energy into the world of classical music," comments artistic director Ma, "and at the same time, nurture musical creativity drawing on wonderfully diverse and distinguished sources of cultural heritage around the world.
