Marie-Agnes Gillot, Clairemarie Osta and Jose Martinez

Welcome, Ophelie! There are several POB fans on the site. I've only seen the dancers you've mentioned on videos (taped off TV), but Gillot and Osta are among the most promising, I think, and I've liked Martinez very much, too. I've seen him in Raymonda Act III and the Leo Staats revival about six years ago -- Soir de Fete.

I hope you'll tell us what you're seeing. We cover Paris Opera Ballet a lot in DanceView, and I'm very interested in what that company is doing.

So, again -- welcome :)

Hi again ! I know these dancers personally. There are great !

Clairemarie Osta is too old now, she won't be “Etoile”, she's 31 now, nearly 32 ( on the 10th of July). :(

Marie-Agnes Gillot is a very great dancer, I hope, a day, she will nominate “Etoile”, don't you ? ;)

Jose Martinez is a great dancer !!! I love him !! He's so tall (1m90 !) ! But his dance is so marvellous ! :)

I like other dancers, like Emilie Cozette, Sujet at POB, Eleonora Abbagnatto, 1rst Dancer at POB and other dancers !

I'm so sad because Laetitia Pujol has been nominated Etoile ! I think it was on the 2nd of May of this year. She's got a beautiful arch, a great technic, but she isn't artistic ! :( Clairemarie or Eleonora or Marie-Agnes should be “Etoiles” I think !

And you ? Which dancers do you like ? :)

Ophélie

I hope my English is good ! :)

The last show I've seen was “Le Concours - Maurice Béjart”.

It was a ballet-movie. A detective story ! It was so original because the dancers talked in the ballet !!

During the competition, a young dancer, Ada, is killed.

There are six suspects :

• Brambilla, Ada's mother. She hates Ada.

• Miss Maud, her dance teacher.

• Michael, choregrapher.

• Angel Bel, a showbiz star.

• Magic Pat, a magician.

• Ivy, her boyfriend.

I like this ballet very much ! There is a great idea in it, the dancers are fabulous !

If you are in France, you must see it !! :)

I think Jose Martinez and Agnes Letestu together are wonderful. I've seen them perform many times. I've only seen Marie-Agnes Gillot once, partnered in the Don Q Grand Pas by Marcello Gomes, and she was just too tall for him, so I couldn't get a full idea of her presentation with a partner who is the right size for her. I found her a little too unemotional as Kitri. No flair. But then, I only saw her dance the Grand Pas, and maybe she was feeling insecure with Gomes, as they were not used to performing together, although he did train at the Paris Opera Ballet School and knew her from then.

She (Gillot) was awesome at the barre during warmup, though. I'll have to see her again, with her dancing something that's really suited to her.

I've not seen Osta, much to my regret.

Salut Ophélie! :)

I like those three dancers a lot too. I especially like Clairemarie Osta in the Balanchine repertory, she was lovely in "Concerto Barocco" a few seasons ago, and also in the "Emeralds" pas de trois last season. I hope that she will perform again in "Jewels" next season, hopefully with a bigger role (she was supposed to dance one of the pas de deux in the tour to Brasil, but got injured). It's a pity she hasn't been promoted to etoile- but well, the promotion policy isn't especially easy to understand...

In general, I prefer Marie-Agnès Gillot in the modern repertory (she was great in Forsythe works, for example), but perhaps it's just that I haven't seen her often in purely classical roles (however, I enjoyed a lot her "Paquita" last season). Marga, her tall height makes it difficult indeed to find partners tall enough...
