About 10 years ago on A&E, Natalia Makarova hosted a documentary series called "Ballerina". It was a really great documentary. I was wondering if anyone knew if it has been released on video or DVD.

to the best of knowledge this "ballerina" series, hosted by makarova, has not be issued commercially on home cassette or dvd. it has been re-shown variously, not that long ago, if mem. serves, again on A&E in the States. (i cannot speak for what re-airing, if any, the shows have been given in europe.)
along w/ the margot fonteyn-narrated "magic of the dance" and the peter schaufuss narrated "dancer" none of this made-for-television/ballet-series programming has been made available for commercial sale/distribution.
if i'm mistaken about any of these, i'd be happy to learn it.
for the present, one's off-the-air copies are all there is, besides those sets that reside in library catalogues, etc.

That is a shame, I think they should be released to video and dvd. If for nothing else, preservation services.

I taped it when it aired and it's my favorite ballet tape. Time will take its toll of the tape and I dread its demise.

Well, maybe we can all e-mail A&E about releasing it on video or more preferably DVD as DVD lasts longer. Goodness knows I would love to have a copy of it.

i've just noticed that the three episodes ('body and soul', 'chemistry' and 'great roles') from natalia makarova's 'ballerina' documentary are no longer on You Tube - i'll upload them later today - as 'ballerina' has had no commercial release, it's a pity for people not to have access to these programs

hi everyone

i've just You Tube uploaded in five parts 'Chemistry', one of the four episodes that comprise the 1987 BBC Omnibus documentary 'Ballerina' - with Natalia Makarova and the talking head.

i hope to upload 'Great Roles' and 'Body and Soul' soon - unfortunately i don't have a copy of the fourth episode 'Handing on the Torch' :<

I've just sent a "Feedback" query to A & E:
"In approximately 1987 Natalia Makarova hosted a documentary series called "Ballerina", as it is beloved star of the dancing world imparting her knowledge & a great educational resource would A & E consider releasing the documentary series to DVD? ~ On behalf fellow dancers & lovers of this great art form, thank you for considering this suggestion. *Carol "

~ shall keep you posted on any word from A & E.

Many thanks to those who've uploaded VHS to digital recordings to YouTube - very helpful.
