Gregg Allman, mainstay of the legendary Allman Brothers Band, has died at the age of 69. (He would have been 70 in December.)

He certainly led an eventful life -- 7 wives, drug addictions, health problems and numerous ups-and-downs in his career. But the best of his music -- The Allman Brothers Band albums At Fillmore East (1971), Eat a Peach (1972) and Brothers and Sisters (1973) as well as his 1987 comeback hit, "I'm No Angel" -- will continue to endure and resonate.

Listening to "sweet" "Melissa" as I type this . . .
