MadameP Posted June 2, 2016 Author Share Posted June 2, 2016 This is just to let everyone know that Karina's condition is as follows: Acute leukemia, myeloblastic option M4 primary active phase I am not in the medical profession, but have been told that apparently, in America, with that type of cancer, a patient has a 50% probability of surviving 5 years. However, Karina is in Russia, which does not have such advanced treatment and where treatment is extremely costly. She is in hospital receiving courses of chemotherapy, but she is very weak. It's a little complicated but all the information seems to be there. Being away from easy access to my bank I won't be able to do anything for about a month to tell anyone else interested how it goes. Looking through very quickly, searching for her name in russian, the last mention I find is dated June 9. “Thank you all for your help Karine Soldatova ! Karina has passed the first round of chemotherapy, now there is a period of rehabilitation.” (Google translation) On May 30 there is mention of about $15,000 (total?) having been collected. https://www.facebook.com/academyvaganova/ I wish her the best health possible and will continue to try to follow this along with the donation situation. MadameP Posted July 17, 2016 Author Share Posted July 17, 2016 Buddy, I just heard that Karina is undergoing another round of very severe chemotherapy at the moment, and is very weak, because (excuse non technical terminology, but I am not a medical expert) this chemotherapy kills off "good" blood cells as well as the bad ones. All Her blood level readings are extremely low. She is in need of bone marrow transplant, but I do not know if she has a donor, or is able to get this operation. I HOPE SO. Link to comment

Buddy Posted March 22, 2017 Share Posted March 22, 2017 I sent the Vaganova Academy an email inquiring as the health of Karina and received a very nice response with some hopeful news. It says that she's having "medical procedures in hospital, but living at home. Feels herself better and hope to continue education as soon as it can be possible.....We meet with her in the Academy more and more...." It thanks everyone for their help and interest. I do not know exactly what this relapse is, but it does not sound good, and she need all our prayers and good wishes. I know that many people have been praying for her already but please everyone, carry on with your efforts. Please remember Karina in your prayers and thoughts. Link to comment

Many dancers have posted instagram messages, asking for help with links to various sites where anyone can make a donation. Please anyone who can help by financial assistance, please do so, and please pray for her also. I will link below both one of the instagrams showing the message, which is in Russian, and then below that, a link to a YouTube video by russianballetvideos2, which gives a simplified translation of the message. Just choose "make a payment" then "pay family or friends" and then use the email address above ^ to find Karina's account and choose your donation sum (and add a message if you want to) and send it. The paypal transaction cost is low compared to other services, so even small sums can be sent with it. Link to comment

Yes, using Paypal to contribute to Karina's fund is quick, very easy, and every single amount of money sent, no matter how small, may make a difference. By now THE INVOICE (€160 000) BY KLINIKUM AUGSBURG - IS PAID!!!Now we are waitng for results of CHEMOTHERAPY AND BONE-MARROW TRANSPLANTATION. By results of this treatment we will be able to understand what to do next: plan of treatment and possible expenditure. As far as possible we will let you know about Karina's condition. This is wonderful news. I'm not sure if they are still taking in donations. The battle with cancer can be long one, and more treatment will most likely be needed later on.
