TV feature on Shklyarov & Shirinkina

Recommended Posts

Tumbled over this today--a Russian television feature on the Shklyarov-Shirinkina family with cute baby photos included. The feature also includes several glimpses of their dancing in Romeo and Juliet and some other clips. I don't know Russian ... but I enjoyed this.

Dance Europe magazine is reporting that 27 dancers will be leaving the Bavarian State Ballet at the end of the season, including principal dancers and soloists Daria Sukhorukova, Ekaterina Petina, Lukas Slavický, Cyril Pierre, Zuzana Zahradníková, Katherina Markowskaja, Léonard Engel, Stephanie Hancox, Ilia Sarkisov, Maxim Chashchegorov, Lucia Lacarra and Marlon Dino. This is a huge turnover, constituting more than a third of the company's roster, including two-thirds of its principal ranks and three-quarters of first soloists. In a significant sense, it won't be the same company once Zelensky takes over.

Ah, Igor Zelensky is taking over as director of the Bayerische Staatsoper from September and he was the one to invite Vladimir and Masha to join the company, though I wonder how he feels about reconstructions...

I guess Zelensky must feel pretty confident that he will be able to fill these new vacancies with excellent Russian dancers now that Shklyarov and Shrinkina have signed on.

Thanks for this, Drew; I wish I was fluent in Russian, but I enjoyed this too. Little Alexey is so adorable! :)

Just catching up on this topic today ... It is possible to watch the video with subtitiles via an auto-generated translation. First, click on the little "CC" (for closed-caption) box in the lower right hand corner. Then go to the adjacent settings gear (the one with the HD on it) and select the language you want in the cc settings section. It's not a very good translation (at times it's pretty hilarious -- it put me in mind of the oeuvre of the great Buffalax) but you can get at least some idea of what they're talking about. The auto-generated Russian captions don't seem that accurate either ...

Apparently Vladimir Shklyarov will be performing at the Mariinsky for  the two opening nights, at least, of the new season, according to his instagram site.

“Friends, in St. Petersburg,  I will open the New season with the /react-text @mariinsky react-text: 47 theatre in ballets of Mikhail Fokine. September 30th, " Schéhérazade " and October 1st will be released in miniature "Le Spectre de la rose" .

(Thanks to Sophia at Dansomanie for finding this.)

Added: I'm having some problem getting this posted correctly, but the word "I" should be included in italics (if my correction from the russian is correct) ....." I will open the program."  ("открою" = "I will open")
