volcanohunter
As far as I can tell from the Mezzo web site, the channel does not air in the UK. However, it does air in a number of non-EU countries, including Australia, Israel, Kazakhstan and Turkey, and in most countries on the European continent, regardless of whether they are members of the EU or not. So its availability is not dependent on EU membership, but on the desire of television providers to carry the channel and, of course, regulatory approval in each country. It appears that TV providers in the UK and Ireland aren't interested. Link to comment
volcanohunter
Many people won't have the opportunity to see the broadcast of Anastasia on November 2. At the moment the ROH sites lists just five locations in all of the Americas: Huntington, NY, Peoria, AZ, Eugene, OR, Florence, OR, and Bellingham, WA. So today's stream of a public rehearsal is as close as many of us will get--for now. It features Vivana Durante and Gary Harris rehearsing Laura Morera as Anastasia/Anna, and Akane Takada and James Hay.as Kshessinska and her partner. At present the stream begins about 14 minutes into the video, and there is an introductory talk about Anna Anderson until about the 30-minute mark. Link to comment
SandyMcKean
Quote Bellingham, WA That's near where I live and I have been searching a ton of websites to check this out over the last couple of weeks. The ROH seems to think that their b'casts are shown at the Pickford Film Center in Bellingham, Wa. but nothing is scheduled at the actual theater. The Pickford does have a posting about the ROH, but there is no list of titles or dates/times. The calendar at the Pickford doesn't show any of the ROH showings. The Pickford did the ROH showings last year, but it doesn't look good for this year. Link to comment

We've had a real problem with the Royal Ballet broadcasts here in Seattle... Looks like Sundance Cinemas in the U District will show four ballets, including Anastasia. Look at the Sundance website for details because the dates are different from other announcements I've seen. Wish they would show Symphonic Variations but something is better than nothing. Helene
The Seattle showings at Sundance Cinemas are listed as: Anastasia: Saturday, November 19, 10am and Monday, November 21, 7:15pm Nutcracker: Friday, December 23, 11am Sleeping Beauty: Saturday, March 18, 10am and Monday, March 18, 7:15pm Jewels: Saturday, April 29, 10am and Monday, May 1, 7:15pm Their food menu looks pretty tasty, too. Thank you for the heads up, seattle_dancer Link to comment
sandik
Thanks indeed -- I'd looked at Sundance earlier and hadn't seen any showings listed, so didn't think to look again. Seattle is in a kind of odd twist right now -- in the past, the Landmark chain would be the obvious place for events like this, but since they've shrunk, it seems like no one presenter is taking on the task. volcanohunter
The map on the ROH site shows a small increase in Anastasia screenings, particularly on the west coast, most sometime after the live broadcast on November 2. The broadcast has also been picked up by some cinemas in Quebec, but the rest of Canada remains a desert. Of course those maps are notoriously inaccurate, so it's imperative to check local listings. http://www.roh.org.uk/showings/anastasia-live-2016 Link to comment
yudi
Two weeks ago I checked the map on ROH site for Royal Ballet on HD screens. I was puzzled, because they listed the US cinemas one by one, but there is no information about US distributors. Finally, by googling I found that "we actually have one distributor who deals with all our international cinemas, including all those in the US." Those ROH guys might think the US is as small as the islands, so they can deal with the US cinemas one by one! Link to comment
SandyMcKean
Quote The calendar at the Pickford doesn't show any of the ROH showings. The Pickford did the ROH showings last year, but it doesn't look good for this year. I wrote that 3 or 4 weeks ago. As it turns out, the Pickford in Bellingham is showing the ROH presentations. The wrinkle is that the presentations are not on the official ROH dates, but rather somewhat later, always on a Sunday, and always at 11:00am. This is music to my ears (pun intended) since I need to take a ferry to get home, and the official screenings at 6:00pm go too late for me to attend. Here is the Pickford schedule: MacMillan's Anastasia – at Pickford 1/8/17 @ 11:00am The Nutcracker.....Pickford is not doing it (doing Bolshoi Nut instead) Wayne McGregor's Woolf Works – at Pickford 3/26/17 @ 11:00am The Sleeping Beauty (after Petipa) – at Pickford 4/9/17 @ 11:00am Mr B's Jewels – at Pickford 5/21/17 @ 11:00am Frederick Ashton's The Dream / Symphonic Variations / Marguerite and Armand – at Pickford 7/9/17 @ 11:00am Incidentally, here are the ROH operas being shown at the Pickford: Offenbach's Les Contes d’Hoffmann – at Pickford 1/22/17 @ 11:00am Verdi's Il Trovatore – at Pickford 3/5/17 @ 11:00am Madama Butterfly – at Pickford 5/7/17 @ 11:00am Verdi's Otello (staring Jonas Kaufmann) – at Pickford 7/30/17 @ 11:00am Link to comment
Helene
I haven't checked for "Madame Butterfly" or "Otello" at the Sundance Cinemas in Seattle, but I did see Les Contes d'Hoffmann and Il Trovatore listed on the schedule. With an 11am start, a field trip to Bellingham to see The Dream/Symphonic Variations/Marguerite and Armand may be in order. Link to comment

Ashton Fan
Just to alert you to a number of cast changes to the Royal Ballet's streamed performance of Sleeping Beauty the most significant of which are as follows:- Prologue:- Song Bird Fairy Francesca Hayward is replaced by Meaghan Grace Hinkis Fairy of the Golden Vine Helen Crawford is replaced by Anna Rose O'Sullivan Act 3:- Florestan and his Sisters James Hay is replaced by Marcelino Sambe and Beatrix Stix-Brunell is replaced by Anna Rose O'Sullivan. Bluebird and Princess Florine Francesca Hayward is replaced by Akane Takada. Everything else is as advertised. You can have great fun spotting Yasmine Naghdi who has recently made a very successful debut as Aurora. In this performance she now appears in the Prologue as the Fairy of the Woodland Glade,in Act 1 as one of Aurora's Friends and in Act 3 in the Florestan divertisement. Hayward is still off due to illness and Stix-Brunell due to injury. I know nothing about the absence of either Crawford or Hay. Edited March 1, 2017 by Ashton Fan Link to comment
