JumpFrog
It's not the responsibility of a critic to appreciate all of the hard work that goes into a production, but to evaluate what he or she sees. While not all critics are equally perceptive, neither are all opinions equal. Some are more well-reasoned, provide more context, are based in more expertise or scholarship, etc. It is not a requirement, moral or otherwise, that an audience member appreciates anything in particular about what he or she sees. People pay their money and decide what is important to them. It's up to the reader to decide if the writing is worth its weight in pixels. For discussions of critics, we have the "Writings on Ballet" forum. For discussion of other posters, we have a rule against discussing the discussion. Well I'm glad that's settled. Link to comment
California
The PDF version of the 2017 schedule includes date ranges only. Sorry California, no specific dates as yet. And I can't remember when they reveal these - maybe not until the late Fall? https://www.sfballet.org/tickets/2017_season_announcement Since I am now an "out-of-towner", I always choose dates where there is an overlap of programs - that's the only thing that makes it cost effective for me. Then I can see 3 or 4 performances within a 4 day period. I see that exact dates for each program are now on the web site: https://www.sfballet.org/tickets/2017_season Scroll down to see each program or click "calendar view" in small type in the upper right. Programs #1 and #2 include some very interesting new work (including Peck's newest, which just premiered). Two weekends when you could see multiple performances of each. Very helpful for out-of-town visitors! Link to comment
pherank
On the SFB Blog there is a short article discussing what ballets various dancers are looking forward to participating in, and seeing: http://sfballetblog.org/2016/07/anticipating-the-2017-repertory-season/ Link to comment
pherank
I don't know what this actually means, but Mr. Millepied was just visiting SFB (for the first time?). My guess is that Tomasson may be thinking of having B.M. choreograph a ballet for the 2018 season. At least that's the logical assumption. And then there's that old dream about a Los Angeles connection for SFB... https://www.instagram.com/p/BIv19ABACMZ/?taken-by=benjaminmillepied Link to comment
sf_herminator
A piece about Arthur PIta, who is creating a work for Program 5, has been posted on the blog: http://sfballetblog.org/2016/08/who-is-arthur-pita/ I saw the DVD of The Metamorphosis with Edward Watson - it was spectacular!! So I was really curious to see what he would do with SFB. Mathilde Froustey posted this peek on her Instagram: This looks to be a very exciting piece and I can't wait to see it!!!!!
