Golden Globes 2016 -Red Carpet Fashions!

Recommended Posts

Movie awards season is upon us! Who watched last night?

Many of the most-talked-about gowns can be seen here: http://www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/red-carpet-dresses/g6688/golden-globes-fashion-2016/?zoomable

Styles & gowns that I most loved:

1. Jennifer Lawrence in the red Dior gown with sparkles around the neck...and I loved her overall Grace Kellyish styling, including the hair.

2. Rooney Mara in pink chiffon by Alexander McQueen and the perfect pigtail (and her Audrey Hepburn face)

3. Jaimie Alexander in green silk & emeralds to match!

Honorable mentions:

Brie Larson's Calvin Klein golden dress (and she won a Golden Globe to go with it!)

Zendaya's maroon ruffles by Marchesa

Viola Davis...for a glamorous look on a more mature lady

On the other hand, in the "What the heck was she thinking?" category:

Eva Longoria in that schoolgirlish off-white dress with the red splotches around the hips...ouch!!!!

Cate Blanchette's soft-pink fringe & lace by Givenchy HC was not bad but didn't seem age-appropriate.

I had Alicia Vikander's white Louis Vuitton dress on my top list until she turned sideways and I saw the "bib effect."

I wonder if E!'s Fashion Police recap will name some of the above? Watch today at 8pm EST on E!

I always tune in just to see what J.Lo is doing but this year she didn't bring that same old excitement we've grown used to. I think she's kind of damned if she does/damned if she doesn't. If she wears something elaborate and over-the-top, everyone says that it looks too costume-y and like she just stepped off-stage. But if she wears something more sedate (like last night), everyone says that she looked boring and J.Lo didn't bring the excitement. No one ever said being a diva is easy!

Loved seeing the three Stallone girls with their parents on the red carpet. They looked lovely.

Agree on JLo, although her covered-up chartreuse gown by Vallie was not bad...went into my "neutral" category.

All in all, there seemed to be more "hits" than "misses" last night. Fashion Police will have to dig deeply to find enough horrors for their show.

I love your selections, Cubanmiamiboy! Kaysta, ITA...Jaimie Alexander was PERFECT from top to bottom, not just the gorgeous gown but the hair & emeralds.

On the other hand...it was somewhat sad to see all of these elegant young actors stooping to gross talk throughout the show. I expected it from Ricky Gervaise but not these beautiful women (or handsome guys). We never heard people like Audrey Hepburn, Olivia De Havilland, Julie Andrews, Liz Taylor, etc talk like this during awards shows in the past. Now, the beautiful styling doesn't quite jibe with what comes out of their mouths. But that's the subject for another thread.
