volcanohunter
The Royal Ballet will beam Peter Wright's production of The Nutcracker to cinemas on Wednesday, December 16. The performance is scheduled to feature Lauren Cuthbertson as the Sugarplum Fairy, Matthew Golding Nehemiah Kish as her Prince, Francesca Hayward as Clara, Alexander Campbell as the Nutcracker and Gary Avis as Drosselmeyer. http://www.roh.org.uk/showings/the-nutcracker-live-2015 Participating cinemas in Europe will show the performance live at 7:15 pm GMT, except in Finland (December 20) and Bulgaria (January 6 and/or 10). In Canada the ballet will be screened on Sunday, December 20 at Cineplex and Landmark cinemas. It will be screened in Japan on February 6 and in Australia in April. In the U.S. most cinemas will be showing the Royal Ballet's Nutcracker on Sunday, December 13, and apparently this will be the performance from 2009 with Miyako Yoshida and Steven McRae. http://www.roh.org.uk/showings/the-nutcracker-recorded-2009 In particular this applies to screenings at Showcase, Frank, Landmark and iPic cinemas, as well as the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, NY, and the Limelight Cinema in Bellingham, WA (Dec. 13 & 16). (Ditto for Italy on December 15.) Strange that the Royal Ballet should have opted for a performance already available on DVD rather than one of the more recent Nutcrackers it filmed in the interim. In Florida and California the Cinepolis chain will show the ballet on December 16. The Royal Opera House site lists all American screenings as the 2009 performance, while the Cinepolis site implies it will be this year's cinemacast. I wish I could tell you which it will be. It will also be screened on December 16 at the Carolina Theater in Durham, NC, and the Cinemas Palme D'Or in Palm Desert, CA, on December 16 & 19 at the City Lights Cinema in Florence, OR, on December 22 at the Rialto Elmwood in Berkeley, CA, and at Symphony Space in New York City on December 27. sandik
There does seem to be an obligatory "donation" to the ROH, but it can be as little as 1 pound. Link to comment
volcanohunter
It's possible to "trash" the donation entirely. Just click the "remove" button, and it shouldn't cost you a cent. Link to comment
sandik
Good to know. I don't really mind giving them something for this material, but I know it's not in everyone's budget. Link to comment
volcanohunter
According to the ROH site, all American screenings will be of the 2009 film. "Due to numerous reasons, including programming restrictions, our US cinema network have decided to screen the recorded 2009 version of The Nutcracker." If you live close enough to the Canadian border, I suppose you could take a drive on December 20 to Vancouver, Lethbridge, Winnipeg, Windsor, Niagara Falls, Kingston, Montreal, Saint John...
