abatt
Here's a link to an article about Hofesh Shechter, who is doing the choreography for the revival of Fiddler. http://www.wsj.com/article_email/broadways-new-fiddler-on-the-roof-with-a-modern-dance-twist-1447104095-lMyQjAxMTE1MzE4MDExNzA0Wj If you live in the NYC area, you have probably seen the commercial on TV by now for the Fiddler revival on Broadway. It prominently features Shechter's choreography. I find it fascinating every time it's on. I'm seeing the show in 2016. sandik
What an interesting choice -- I've seen some of his work with touring groups, but didn't know he was doing musical theater as well. Link to comment
Olga
I for one am shocked that Shecter is changing Robbins' chireography, even the bottle dance. How do other people feel about that? Link to comment
sandik
I don't know that I would characterize this as Schecter "changing Robbins' choreography" -- I think he is making his own. Robbins held this work very close and the musical has been closely identified with it, but the majority of recent revivals have looked for new choreography -- I'm not that surprised. I am grateful that there is significant film documentation of Robbins' version. Link to comment

canbelto
Has anyone seen it? I saw it last night and while I didn't like some touches (like the framing device) or the choice to play down some of the vaudeville influences, I thought it was a well-acted, well-directed revival. Olga
Thank you for your review Canbelto, and for the clip of Zero Mostel. A very rich performance for a poor man! Link to comment
canbelto
That Mostel performance is amazing. I know Mostel didn't get along with Robbins and was not picked to do the film. A shame. Link to comment
canbelto
Another Bock/Harnick musical opened. She Loves Me right across the street from Fiddler on the Roof. For my money it's the better revival. Zachary Levi and Laura Benanti are absolutely wonderful, as is Jane Krakowski. http://poisonivywalloftext.blogspot.com/2016/03/she-loves-me.html Link to comment
