Change in met opera/ABT ticket ordering website

Recommended Posts

I just went to see what seats are left for Vishneva's Aurora this Saturday and the ticket ordering website is completely different.

Looks improved to me, they now give you a "view" from the seat you are choosing, similar to the Royal Opera House website. I don't quite believe some of the pictures they use, as they have the entire stage showing for the dress circle back seats, and I know from experience you can't see half the stage from those seats, but still an improvement from what they used to have.

The old system had an absence of info: ie that views are obscured and difficult from seats. If the view in the new site isn't accurate, that's even worse, since people will count on information provided actively.

I'll have to check it out again to see if they use just one picture for the dress circle box instead of one for the lower level and one for the back level. But the link I looked at did not look accurate for the back row.

If they do, they should make it clear from what seat the photo is taken. It is misleading unless they make this clear, if they are using a photo or a couple of photos that are either prime or average and displayed when seats with obscured views are selected.

Just looked at it. They do indeed use the same picture for both the front row and the upper back row. I think they'll get some complaints from folks, because you really can't see half the stage from those back seats.

That was my impression too.

It's going to take me awhile to get used to the site. It seems very "busy" to me.

One thing I noticed that I don't like is that when you put the mouse on a seat, it doesn't automatically display the row and seat number.

Today for the first time EVER, I was charged the difference between the dynamic price and what I paid as a subscriber. So I guess the policies do depend on who you get as a ticket agent. And this was to dump my Osipova (ya, right) R&J ticket for this Saturday's SB with Diana. I complained vigorously that ABT should take a cue from NYCB on how to treat subscribers. If I had had more time I would have asked for a manager.

I really dislike that about this new site. Before, I could go to the box office and ask for a particular seat. Now you can only see the row:(

It's really slow and has a lot of kinks. You'd think they'd wait till after the season is over to unveil it. I had a really hard time trying to buy tickets earlier.

I doubt the Met is worried too much about messing with the ABT season. In fact, it's probably the perfect time, from their point of view. They get traffic to test it out and some feedback about how it's working, and they don't have to pay the price.

I did call the ABT ticket office to complain today. The manager said she's been with the Met for 10 years and has never seen anything like this season. SO many complaints. She was very nice about my problem with exchanging (and everything else I complained about). She promised to get back to me tomorrow and told me the name of the ABT guy who deals with the Met (which, unfortunately I promptly forgot). So if you want to complain, call 212-362-6000 and ask for Alexndria.

My understanding is that when you exchange subscription seats you pay the original price at the beginning of the season. Hopefully you can get a credit for the difference. Maybe someone at ABT Subscriptions can help. Surely they don't want to lose a subscriber.

That has ALWAYS been the case before. I did call later and spoke to a manager. Hopefully, she will credit my account:) She said she's been with the Met for 10 years and has never received as many complaints as this year.

This sounds very plausible.

As one old manager used to say, "You can test before you go live, or you can test after you go live. But you're going to test." ABT customers are the guinea pigs.

As a new kid on the block I would first like to say how much I enjoy reading all the posts, all so helpful. I thought I was going crazy yesterday the Met site as well and without getting too upset I finally gave up trying, but to my surprise this morning the site is working. I agree with Helene, I guess we were the guinea pigs, but was that wise considering it might have angered many ballet fans? I wonder how ticket sales went yesterday considering this issue.

The Met Opera runs the site, and ABT has to go along with whatever the Met decides to do. The administrators of the opera couldn't care less if ABT ticket buyers get frustrated. Their only concern is that the system works for Met Opera ticket buyers by August.

I still cant get to sspecific seat selection. Is there a trick to this? Thanks in advance for guiding me!

If you are on the page showing the seating macnellie, put the hand curser/your curser over the red dots (seats available), I made the same mistake since the old page you can just scroll and it leads you to the seat, but this new one you really have to be specific. Basically pin point to the available seats to be able to see the numbers. Hope this helps, I was quite frustrated last night too and had to do several tries. I still think this new site is a work in progress. Good luck!

I know how frustrating it can be macnellie, and took me a few days to get used to this new website, but it does work once you get there. If you click on the show you want, there is a popup in red on the right of the page "Buy Tickets", if you click on that it should bring you to the different dates and times saying "from $20", just click on the "select seats" and it should bring you to the different tiers, if you click on any one level, you should be on the page with the seating chart where you can choose your seat. I feel your pain and wish you luck. Maybe if there are issues with many of us, we should begin a petition!
