2015-16 Season Announced

Recommended Posts

I had been thinking that the Fullington reconstruction of Le Corsaire would be worth a trip to Seattle next spring - but I'm not sure about flying in for a school recital. I don't see anything on the site about extra things -- perhaps a Q&A or lecture by Fullington? That would make it more attractive for out-of-towners. If locals see anything announced publicly, please let us know. (And if Doug Fullington is reading this...please consider doing something like that, especially the weekend of March 20.)

The are student recitals and there are student recitals. People travel to see the SAB workshops.

The lec-demo is Tuesday, March 8:

Both weekends are concurrent with the "Director's Choice" program: Justin Peck's "Year of the Rabbit," Alejandro Cerrudo's "Little Mortal Jump," and Paul Gibson's "Rush."

You could do PNB "Director's Choice" Saturday matinee Mar 19, Kidd Pivot in "Betroffenheit" (Crystal Pite's company) Saturday night, and either or both "Corsaire's" Sunday afternoon.

Tickets to the Pite are $40, including fees. The Moore Theatre is downtown. PNB will likely have some discounts for "Director's Choice,"

What she said -- it's a dancey time.

3/8 PNB Corsaire lec-dem at Phelps Center (Doug Fullington talking about the project)

3/11 PNB Friday Preview Director’s Choice (studio showing for company rep program)

3/17 PNB lecture series Justin Peck (PNB sells tickets to its dress rehearsals, with a little lecture or interview before. This one is schedule to be Justin Peck)

3/18-19 Kidd Pivot and Electric Company Theater at Moore Theatre (co-production On the Boards and Seattle Theater Group. Word of mouth on this is very exciting)

3/18-27 PNB at McCaw (Rush [Gibson], Little mortal jump [Cerrudo], Year of the Rabbit [Peck])

3/20-26 PNB Family Matinees at McCaw (Le Corsaire)

3/21-25 PCA/APA conference in Seattle (the Popular Culture Association is meeting in Seattle for the first time -- this will have a big impact on available hotel rooms -- they are a monster-sized conference. Also lots of fun.)

3/24-26 Grupo Corpo at Meany Theater (University of Washington presenter, this group is extremely popular here)

This is very helpful information. Thank you. When I attended a weekend's worth of performances a few years ago at PNB, I was impressed that they had a pre-performance lecture in a small theater and another with dancers answering questions after the performance. These were open to ticket-holders, not just Friends or Subscribers. It seemed a very nice way to encourage out-of-towners to make a weekend of it.

The various lectures, etc. are great for attracting locals to performances, but the scheduling is not helpful for attracting tourists. Are they still doing the pre- and post-performance gigs?

Yes: Doug Fullington does wonderful work with pre-performance presentations, which start one hour before curtain time and last 30 minutes, including a Q&A. Post-performance Q&A's are given after almost every mixed rep performance (except when there is a gala, I believe, so maybe not opening night) and after some full-lengths. (Not "Nutcracker" or the long ones.) Peter Boal hosts most of them, with Otto Neubert doing them on occasion, and there is at least one dancer, sometimes two or three at each Q&A. Once in a while a choreographer makes an appearance.

They take place in the Nesholm Family Lecture Hall downstairs from the main lobby, after having been moved upstairs for a while when SIFF Cinema used the Lecture Hall as a venue. (They've since moved.)

They can't reschedule a dress rehearsal to make it more tourist-friendly, and that is when the choreographers and stagers are there. (They're often on a plane after opening Friday.) It's not practical to have a range of activities on performance weekends, and PNB is not a tourist-destination kind of company. Seattle is not a big tourist destination during the Fall and Winter, especially, unless people like rain. For people who venture out for the culture, there are usually way more things to do in the same time slots, if you're interested in modern dance, theater, or the symphony. Since Seattle Opera and PNB share McCaw Hall, that's the only place there's no overlap.

Hi California, I hope you make it to Seattle. The weekend of March 20 is full of performances and dress rehearsals for PNB and its School. We offer the Corsaire lec-dem early in order to build excitement for it as we lead up to the performances. The lec-dem is also an opportunity for the kids to perform some of their dances in front of an audience.

Thank you! I hope the company can post as much schedule information as possible about these things on its web site, to help those of us buying nonrefundable plane tickets!

If you will have a look, I think you'll find everything about performances and events open to the public from March 17-20 already on the website, here:

Casting goes on the website once it has been posted internally.

Thanks, Doug. I had overlooked the Calendar section, but it's very user-friendly. I just booked tickets, plane, and hotel for March 17-20. Looking forward to it! I've seen the ABT Corsaire, so I'm very curious what the reconstruction looks like.
