sneds
Hi! Posted this week on the NYCB website: "Earlier this week, it was announced that Abi Stafford has been promoted to the rank of Soloist. Miss Stafford was born in Carlisle, PA and studied at the School of American Ballet. She joined NYCB in 1999 as an apprentice and became a member of the corps de ballet in January 2000." Estelle
Kate, there was another thread about it in the "Dancers" section, under the (not very explicit) title "Speaking of..." http://www.balletalert.com/ubb/ultimatebb....ic&f=2&t=000446 Link to comment
Gamzatti
Good to hear, she's a lovely dancer with cracking potential. Link to comment
aubri
Sorry but Abi studied at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, where she got her training, she didn't get that wonderful training in SAB, she went there already very well trained. Contratulations to Abi and the wonderful teacher at CPYB Link to comment
Leigh Witchel
It does seem that NYCB tends as a matter of policy in official bios to slide over any other training but that from SAB, doesn't it? P.S. It's good to see you here Aubri! Link to comment
Mel Johnson
The few exceptions the the SAB-only rule seem to break when you received early training from your mother (or father). That they would mention, just to keep the peace, especially if mom or dad is still alive! Link to comment
BW
They really didn't mention her CPYB training?!?! I thought it was a given that everyone knew she'd trained there! A number so CPYBers have attended SAB at an older age...closer to 16. I know of one who is now with Miami City Ballet. CPYB does appear to run a very good year 'round program. The only negative I've heard from a mother of alumni is that the teachers are, in general, not particularly "warm". Link to comment
Calliope
The bio and the press release on their website read: Miss Stafford was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and began her dance training at the age of six with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, under the direction of Marcia Dale Weary. In 1996 and 1997, Miss Stafford studied at the summer program of the School of American Ballet, the official school of New York City Ballet. She entered SAB full time in the fall of 1998. So they do mention CPYB. The bios are reviewed by the dancers themselves before anything is posted. Link to comment
