Italian Ballet Dancers - Diaspora

The National Ballet of Canada has three Italians, all in the corps for now: Giorgio Galli, Francesco Gabriele Frola, and Shaila d'Onofrio. What's it like at your home companies?

No one from Italy at Pacific Northwest Ballet right now -- I'm not sure I remember anyone from Italy in the company. At the moment, there are five dancers (out of 40+) who were born and trained outside the US (Bold, Bouchard, Cruz, Korbes, and J Tisserand). Of those, Bouchard and Cruz were professionals before they came to the US -- the rest finished their training in the US and went on to join companies.

I checked a couple other west coast companies' websites. Oregon Ballet Theater has 21 dancers listed (plus 6 apprentices) and seven come from companies outside the US, mostly from Japan and China. Ballet BC has 14 in their current roster (plus 4 apprentices) with four coming from outside Canada (three from the US and one from Japan)

Federico Bonelli didn't even bother staying in Italy. He went from Italy to the Zurich Ballet to the Dutch National Ballet to the Royal Ballet (where he's been a principal since 2003.)
