Paris Opera 2014-15 cinema season

3 posts in this topic

The Paris Opera has unveiled its 2014-15 cinema lineup, and as was the case this season, there is little live ballet.

December 18 - Défilé / Etudes / highlights from The Nutcracker

Evidently the Forsythe ballets which will share the bill with Etudes in September are not considered suitable for cinemas.

May 18 (live) - Manon

June 4 & 11 - Swan Lake

The company will perform the ballet in March-April. There is no confirmation of whether this will be a new film or whether the existing film will be screened. (My money is on the latter, because the site indicates that the performance's conductor is Vello Pähn; next season's run will be conducted by Simon Hewett.)

The operas the company will be presenting live are Il barbiere di Siviglia, Tosca and Don Giovanni. The other operas in the lineup have been recorded previously, primarily at other opera houses, and many them are already available on DVD.

Usually Paris Opera screenings in Quebec are delayed, but the Etudes/Nutcracker/Défilé program will, for the most part, appear in Quebec cinemas on Thursday, December 18, as it will at most European locations. In Gatineau it will be screened a day early, on December 17.

And why not? The program is pre-recorded anyway, and its festive character would make a little less sense after Christmas.

Screenings in France, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland are listed here:
