It's always interesting to hear something like this when you have a bit more information than the average listener.

I remember the show they put on -- live and remote -- for the closing ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympics, during the transition to Russia.  If that was just a taste, we're in for a treat.

The NY Times also ran an article about Gergiev and the Olympics.  (see attached)

 

 

The Post also briefly mentioned Gergiev's role in the opening ceremony, referring to him as a "local musician".  Ya gotta love the NY Post.
