Hello, flipsy, and thank you for starting the topic. Baumbach's work has been hit-and-miss for me since "Kicking and Screaming," but Frances Ha sounds like it might be a good one and the reviews I've seen have been very favorable.

I did eventually catch this on DVD, thanks to flipsy's recommendation. The plot is indeed simple, maybe a little too simple even for ninety minutes. Has anyone else seen it?

It's on my to-watch list -- dancer friends have had very mixed responses to it, so I haven't rushed to watch, but I'm getting there.

Loved Lola Versus, this not so much. But did like that she was/is a dancer!

I must say it is evident early on that Frances has no future as a dancer.....

What macnellie said. My thoughts and feelings, exactly.
It's quite a contrast to a newer movie about a struggling artist in New York, the Coen brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis." But then their movies never have happy endings.
