if the date is correct, the moment presumably documents a rehearsal of Balanchine's BALLET IMPERIAL which the choreographer staged for the British company in '50.
Balanchine and Beryl Greyphoto said to be date from 1950, no further credits

this scan of a publicity photo has been described by the owner of the vintage print (the scan comes from a recent reprint) as a "candid moment" from 1950, with George Balanchine on stage, working Sadler's Wells dancer Beryl Grey.

a British ballet watcher has confirmed BALLET IMPERIAL as the work being rehearsed and also that the foto was taken by Roger Wood.
