Seattle Opera is holding a "Hojotoho" Singing Contest and a costume contest, followed by SO Chorusmaster Beth Kirchhoff leading the audience of the willing in the following choruses:

  • The Wedding March from Lohengrin
  • The Entrance of the Guests from Tannhäuser
  • The Carnevals-Lied from Das Liebesverbot,
  • "and — in honor of Verdi’s bicentennial, also this year — the 'Libiamo' from La traviata."

Registration can be done in advance or from 6-7pm the night of the event.

The evening also includes a costume contest; to compete, simply show up dressed as a favorite character from Der Ring des Nibelungen. And both men and women are encouraged to share their best (or most creative) rendition of Brünnhilde’s famous “Hojotoho” war cry. Celebrity judges, including Seattle Opera General Director Speight Jenkins, will award prizes for best costume and best “Hojotoho.” Admission is free, and yes—there will be cake!
