The Holland Festival is coming this summer! From the 1st until the 26th of June 45 productions are being shown in divers locations througout Amsterdam. Like every year, a couple of dance performances will be presented.
L.A. Dance Project is the company of choreographer Benjamin Millepied, known for choreography in Black Swan, in which Nathalie Portman - also Millepieds wife – won an Oscar for her role. L.A. Dance Project offers more than just ballet and focuses on the collaborations with other art forms. At the Holland Festival, L.A. Dance Project will present a programme with Cunningham’s radical piece Winterbranch, Forsythe’s Quintett, which is seldom performed, and Reflections a new piece by Millepied himself. 2,3 June – Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.
El Djoudour is a dance performance by the French-Algerian choreographer Abou Lagraa. Fourteen male and female performers will be showing Lagraa's vision on the essence of the Islamic culture. An intense and emotional dance with live music, with live vocals ofthe Algerian singer Houria Aichi. 9,10,11 June – Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.
CRACKz (Dança morta) is a dance performance by the Brazilian choreographer Bruno Beltrão. This 'Dead dance’ he brilliantly abstracts everyday reality using a very contemporary language of dance. The dance has its roots in the explosive physicality of hip hop and results in a hypnotic experience. 17,18 June – Westergasfabriek, Zuiveringshal West.
The Pyre is a dance performance by the French multi-talent Gisèle Vienne: she is a choreographer, director, performer and a visual artist. The performance is about an encounter between a boy and a dancer. Vienne's versatile background is noticable in this performance, because the décor is made of light panels which are representing the neon of a nocturnal metropolis. This results in a special performance where nothing is what it seems. 14,15 June - Frascati.
