A preview of the Bolshoi's troubled festival celebrating the Rite of Spring centenary by Sophia Kishkovsky in The New York Times.

Mr. Gershenzon presented the idea for the “Rite of Spring” anniversary festival to Mr. Iksanov as the theater’s historic main stage was undergoing a seemingly endless, costly and controversial renovation that was completed in 2011. Then, as the investigation into the attack on Mr. Filin progressed, Mr. Gershenzon was enlisted to find a late replacement for Wayne McGregor, the British choreographer who last month postponed the scheduled premiere of his staging of “The Rite of Spring,” built on the Bolshoi’s dancers.

This new Bolshoi "Rite," with staging by avant-garde choreographer Tatiana Baganova, climaxes with an unlikely cascade of water flowing on the 14 dancers from what appears to be a row of bathroom shower heads.

An interview with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet's Sam Chittenden, retiring after 15 years with the company.

“I would never be hired today with only three years’ training. The company has evolved. The standards are higher. Tom and JP [executive director Jean-Philippe Malaty] have evolved, too. They’ve gotten better at running a company, better at realizing their vision and reaching goals.”

A story on Andrej Uspenski's new book of photographs, Dancers: Behind the Scenes with the Royal Ballet.

While many photos reveal dancers attending morning classes, rehearsals and performing on stage, other more off-duty shots are more interesting. Tamara Rojo is carrying a large bundle of dresses to a rehearsal for Marguerite and Armand with her partner Sergei Polunin. “She is smiling because Sergei turned up with no costumes. We have to be familiar with ballerinas' costumes, but it doesn't usually matter what the male dancers wear,” says Uspenski....

A review of the cinema broadcast of the Royal Ballet's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' by Gabrielle James for The Yorker.

The performers are lucky to be gifted with such brilliant characters, but all members of the company excell themselves by giving unique and original performances. Sarah Lamb as Alice is charming and her pas de deuxs with Federico Bonelli, who plays Jack, (and looks very much like Tag from Friends) had the perfect energy and chemistry. Zenaida Yanowsky shines as the Queen of Hearts, with the most brilliant comic acting, making the character her own without saying a word.....

A story on the treatments received by Sergei Filin for his skin injuries.

Gavrilyuk believes that Russia probably has the most effective burn treatments in the world at present. He notes that it was immediately after the Chernobyl accident that Soviet researchers were tasked with helping those who suffered from serious burns. Scientists had to develop an ‘artificial skin’ in the context of impending nuclear catastrophes, which are always associated with large numbers of injuries caused by UV- and gamma-radiation.

Preliminary hearings in the lawsuit filed by Nikolai Tsiskaridze against the Bolshoi will be heard next month.

On Sunday, the dancer strongly condemned the Bolshoi's management in a live interview on the NTV channel. He said he doubted that the injuries sustained by Filin were as serious as reported, and expressed readiness to head the company.

According to new reports, the dancer fears a third reprimand for speaking with the media, which may give the administration reason to fire him.

Huntsville Ballet closes out its season next month.

In addition to the Balanchine tribute that highlights Huntsville Ballet's own stars, the "Billy the Kid and More" program includes guest artist Jason Cox dancing the role of Billy the Kid. Cox, a native of San Antonio, Texas, dances with Ballet San Antonio. Bloodgood will also dance the role of Pat Garrett in "Billy the Kid."

A review of the Royal Ballet School and American Ballet Theater’s Studio Company by Alastair Macaulay in The New York Times.

Other excerpts were from Paul Taylor’s “Airs” and Alexei Ratmansky’s “Carnaval des Animaux” (Ballet Theater Studio) and Jiri Bubenicek’s “Souffle de l’Esprit,” Maurice Béjart’s “Seven Greek Dances” and Ashley Page’s “Larina Waltz” (Royal Ballet School). Where the choreography was good, it did not always suit students, and Mr. Page’s showy entertainment was too stylistically incoherent to be good.

A review of San Francisco Ballet's 'Onegin' by Irene Hsiao for SF Weekly's blog.

Reading and writing occupy a certain idleness; the life we perceive in text is not real, and time spent writing is time outside of action. Thus a verse narrative that has a heroine who reads romance novels and two of its central dramatic moments taking place in the form of letters hardly seems the ideal subject of a ballet. Yet John Cranko's 1965 Onegin, restaged at the San Francisco Ballet by Reid Anderson and Jane Bourne in 2012 and revived at the War Memorial Opera House March 21-28, negotiates the tension between the visceral and the visionary with powerful narrative impact.
