Casting is up for the week of December 18. Lauren King and Lauren Lovette debut as the Sugar Plum Fairy. So so bummed I'm going to be out of town!! I hope that I can count on detailed reviews from BTers. Please!

Lovette was charming in her debut as Marzipan last night.  Started strong but ran out of steam at the end. Gargouillades were not great.  But it is nice that she is getting a shot at Plum.

Glad to see Adam Hendrickson is guesting as Herr Drosselmeyer this week and next. He retired last season, but I met him a while ago and he has such a puckish demeanor, offstage as well as on. I'm glad he's still dancing. What a talent! It was too bad he was just not as technically spectacular as Daniel Ullbricht, who blows away all competition. Hendrickson would be able to extend his career in a different company - Boston or Pennsylvania or Peter Boal's company? I wonder what he's doing.

Yesterday's matinee featured Tiler Peck and if there's a better SPF I haven't seen one. Sterling Hyltin was superb as the Dewdrops. Corps were great. Only Robert Fairchild seemed like he was suffering from Nutcracker fatigue.

Hendrickson works for Weapons Specialists, LTD, a theatrical property house based in New York that specializes in on-set weapons consulting, coordination and choreography. Hendrickson was first introduced to the company in 2007 when they worked with NYCB to stage the sword fighting scenes for Martins’ Romeo + Juliet.  FYI, he is married to NYCB principal Rebecca Krohn.

So bummed that I had to miss yesterday's multiple-debut cast of Nutcracker (Lauren King, Mary Elizabeth Sell, etc), not to mention today with Lauren Lovette. Any reports from those who attended would be very welcome!

I was there today, and Lauren Lovette was stunning. Lush, sparkling.....Chase Finlay partnered her crisply and thoughtfully. Mary Sell was great as dewdrop. I also especially loved Claire Kretchmar (sp?) as coffee. If it wasn't for the 8 year old boy exclaiming "I'm Bored!" And " I want to leave" every two minutes sitting next to me, it would have been a perfect matinee!

When I took my son to see Swan Lake at the age of 15 (Amanda McKerrow), at least he waited until intermission to say those things. Sigh. I said he could leave but that on the way out he had to give his ticket to someone, perhaps a ballet student, waiting outside the Met and hoping to get a ticket. Which he did.

I wish I could have been there to catch those debuts -- especially Lovette's and Sell's -- actually, most especially Sell's.  I've always appreciated her as one of the company's ever-reliable corps dancers (and I mean that as a compliment), but had never had the opportunity to see her in a featured role until the Fall 2012 season, when she danced  as one of the two demi-soloists in Baiser de la Fée. She was just terrific -- her dancing was fast, daring, fully-charged. Lovette's a known quantity at this point, but Sell was a delightful surprise. I hope we get to see more of her soon!

There is a review up in the NY Times re all of the  recent  Nutcracker debuts. The review also includes comments regarding some other dancers who were not debuting major roles.  I assume it will be in tomorrow's links section.  I wish I could have seen Lovette, but the timing just didn't work out.  Maybe next year.Bring on the Winter Rep season.
