A review in The Londonist of a mixed bill by the Royal Ballet:

The world of classical ballet has always indulged in tragedy – cursed enchantments, jealous rivals and doomed romance are bread and butter for repertory companies the world over. But it was choreographer Kenneth MacMillan who brought to the postwar ballet stage themes of repression, rape and madness, themes that could also be seen emerging in dramatic theatre at the time.

A performance of Swan Lake marks the retirement of Australian Ballet principal dancer Rachel Rawlins:

The Canberra Times

Rawlins joined the company in 1991, leaving for two years to perform with the Royal Ballet as first soloist before returning to the Australian Ballet in 2001 and receiving her promotion to principal artist in 2004. Rawlins, now 39, has been a standout performer with the company, excelling in leading roles in works including Onegin, Swan Lake and Madame Butterfly.

The Australian

Rawlins' stage career spans 21 years, 18 of those spent at The Australian Ballet.

Queen Margrethe of Denmark designed all the costumes and sets for a new production of The Nutcracker:

Backstage at the Tivoli theatre, someone was rustling around the Christmas tree. Tinsel was being tweaked; baubles adjusted, and presents primped as the set designer ensured that everything was perfect before the curtain rises.

"And then I remembered that the woman crawling around the Christmas tree was actually the Queen of Denmark," said Michael Revie, a ballet dancer from Northern Ireland, who is dancing the role of the prince of the Sugar Plum Fairy. "It was quite surreal."

A story in The Telegraph on London's best ballet stores.

Also on Drury Lane, Bloch is renowned for quality ballet slippers and Sansha sells both long, romantic and classic short tutus. The latter are available in a selection of thicknesses, up to nine layers of tulle.
