For those that aren't familiar with the organization, Teen Tix is a program to encourage teenagers to attend more arts events -- they partner with arts organizations in Seattle to offer deeply discounted tickets to teenagers. PNB is a participant in that program, and is a big favorite with their teen audience.

WE’RE BIG WITH THE TEENIES!

Pacific Northwest Ballet Honored With Four Teen Tix Teeny Awards!

August 1, 2012 – Seattle, WA – Since the inception of Seattle Center’s Teen Tix, Pacific Northwest Ballet has been a proud and passionate participant of the city-run arts access program for teenagers. Teen Tix confirmed that the love is mutual, as it announced the winners of its fourth annual Teeny Awards. PNB was thrilled and honored to receive four – count ‘em, four! – Teenies for the 2011-2012 season:

  • Best Selling Show of 2011-2012: Don Quixote

“Teen Tix is right at the heart of our effort to attract young people to Pacific Northwest Ballet, and it’s a partnership that works beautifully,” said Ellen Walker, PNB’s director of marketing and communications. “We love the Teen Tix organization and we love the young people who attend our performances, talk about the shows and send us their feedback. We are a better organization because of Teen Tix, and receiving these awards is just icing on the cake!”

“Receiving these Teeny Awards is a huge source of pride for all of us at PNB,” echoed PNB’s artistic director, Peter Boal. “We love our teen audience and know that they will be with us long after the big 2-0. Thanks for the recognition and reaffirmation that our programming and service are on the right track. See you at Cinderella!”

Now in its eighth year of operation, Teen Tix provides Seattle area teenagers, ages 13 to 19, with access to 38 arts organizations in an effort to engage young people in Seattle's vibrant cultural scene. Teen Tix membership enables teenagers to purchase day-of-show tickets to music, dance, theatre and arts events for only $5.

The Teeny Awards were created in 2009 as a Teen Tix initiative to empower young audiences, honor youth-friendly programming choices, and acknowledge organizations where young audience members feel particularly valued and welcomed. The Teeny Awards are given by Teen Tix’s Steering Committee based on Teen Tix members’ votes.

Congratulations to PNB. It might not create a subscribing, full-priced ticket-buying, donating public immediately, although I'm sure many teens who go to university will seek out dance where they're studying, but some of them will be enticed back when they have the cash and babysitters.
