this scan has been lightened a bit to bring out the detail in the Karinska confection making up Hayden's head-piece, for what i assume to have been the role originally performed by Maria Tallchief in BOURREE FANTASQUE - Karinska's sketch for this costume accessory is reproduced on the cover of Toni Bentley's COSTUMES BY KARINSKA.

My first real live ballerina . This image strikes me as untypical in its softness and vulnerability. There even seems to be a suggestion of the fey. Not your usual impression of Hayden.
