Here's a link to the 2012 Festival schedule. Much of it consists of modern dance, public participation and so on, and all of it is free - and some of it isn't even ticketed - but the 22nd August program in the Auditorium Theater, "Dancing East and West of Chicago", includes performances of possible interest to ballet fans. That's one of the ticketed programs, and those tickets will become available at noon on 18th July.

It is clearer to me than it was that these events are all not only FREE but general admission. So you can place your order - two tickets maximum per order - remotely, i.e. by phone or internet (rather than stand in line) until they're gone; the line to get on early may be the one at the door, so you can be near the front of the Oklahoma-land-rush-style seat-taking when the doors open.
