A friend from Paris just Skyped me with the happy news that Myriam Ould Braham was named Etoile following tonight's performance of Ashton's Fille Mal Gardee!

The POB roster has not yet caught up to this news. Here is her bio, as it stands (still showing her as Premiere Danseuse):

Just like Kondaurova and Obraztsova in Russia, this promo has been long-hoped by balletomanes around the globe. Congratulations on this well-deserved promo...and just in time for the USA tour! Posted Image

Thank you so much for the news and video -- she looked so surprised!  I loved her dancing when I saw her in Paris a few years ago.

Congratulations, to Ms. Ould Braham Posted Image

So exciting! Féliciations, Mlle Ould-Braham!

2012 has been a great year for long-over due promotions. Now if POB would just promote Thibault ...

Another vote for Thibault here and how about a promotion for Osmolkina as well.

More than happy about Ould-Braham though, thoroughly deserved.

She'll be in Paris dancing Fille for most of the US tour.

Justice for Thibault, indeed.  Sigh.

Too bad. I just checked the casting for the DC leg of the tour and Ould-Braham is not listed there either. I could swear that she was originally cast for at least one Peasant pdd before the latest casting went up...but, of course, now that she's Etoile, she would be a Giselle, rather than do Peasant pdd. The casting for the NY portion of the tour is available on the LIncoln Center website:

You can click on the link for each of the 3 programs they are presenting to get the casting for every performance.

I saw Marie-Agnes Gillot dance the role of Myrtha in Paris about three years ago, and she tore out of the wings and flew over the stage like the proverbial bat out of hell, a wili on the warpath if there ever was one. If you have the opportunity to see her in this role, I highly recommend that you do so. She will also be dancing Bolero in New York, and I'm going to see her in that as well. One can never get enough of her.
