Ballet Theatre of Ohio
The heroine of the story, Swanilda, is performed by Sarah Ruesch, 17, from Tallmadge. The role of Franz will be danced by Damien Highfield, courtesy of Groundworks Dance Theatre in Akron and Brian Murphy, courtesy of Verbs Ballet in Akron, will perform the role of Dr. Coppelius. Swanilda's friends will be danced by Courtney Cleminshaw of Hudson, Amy Ott of Stow, Angela Trivelli of Kent and Abigail Wilhite of Tallmadge.
Highfield described his character as "carefree and very whimsical," although Franz also isn't very smart.
"I've done three or four versions of this," Highfield said. "But I like this one the best."
Academy of Ballet Arts
Dana Nelson and Jose Chavez opened a ballet studio in the tough economy because they’re passionate about the art of ballet.
The co-directors of Academy of Ballet Arts in Murrieta, had their first class in October and were determined to pass on the ballet what they learned from their teacher, Teresa Hall-Wells, the academy’s artistic director and former featured soloist with Kansas City Ballet.
