The Miami Herald on the appointment of Lourdes Lopez as Artistic Director of Miami City Ballet:

http://www.miamihera...th-destiny.html

But at each major step in her life, Lopez has taken chances. Moving from Miami at 14 to live in New York with her sister and study ballet. Leaving her job as a principal dancer at New York City Ballet, despite being a single mother and not knowing her next move. Becoming a TV reporter, and then executive director of the George Balanchine Foundation, a major nonprofit, both without experience. Launching a contemporary ballet troupe with famed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon. And now, succeeding Edward Villella, a legendary figure in the dance world, as artistic director of Miami City Ballet, the troupe he has shaped and led to national and international acclaim. Lopez will take over in May 2013, after Villella has led the troupe through its 27th season.

Review of a Royal Ballet triple bill:

http://www.independe...on-7626793.html

They came in all their finery: glam-rockers in nose-rings and dog-chains, the Kensington set in full-fig Chanel. The last time the Royal Ballet attracted such a mixed crowd was in 2006, when ballet last met pop and fashion head-on.

M. Baryshnikov will appear in a new play in Los Angeles:

http://www.latimes.c...0,5231454.story

Try following Mikhail Baryshnikov up a flight of stairs sometime. He doesn't run or even leap. He glides, as if he is as at home in the air as he is on the ground. It's like trailing a 12-year-old boy. Or an impala.

Baryshnikov knows these stairs well, taking them every day he is in New York. They belong to his baby, the Baryshnikov Arts Center, which stages productions by up-and-comers and such established artists as Peter Brook, Robert Wilson and Philip Glass.

Ballet Idaho is reviewed in Peter Anastos' Cinderella:

http://www.idahostat...es-a-sweet.html

Ballet Idaho artistic director Peter Anastos’ comic staging of “Cinderella” delighted the audience and showed off this company of young talented dancers extremely well.

A. Christina Giannini’s gorgeous costumes and Michael Helms’ beautiful backdrops are impressive under Travis Richardson’s lush lighting on the Morrison Center stage.

http://www.koreatime...145_108587.html

The Universal Ballet Company (UBC) has concluded a series of performances of “Sleeping Beauty” at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.

The company’s attention to detail was obvious in a rehearsal ahead of the first production.
