YOUTH AMERICA GRAND PRIX (YAGP) is America’s first and the world’s largest student ballet scholarship competition, founded in 1999 by two former Bolshoi Ballet dancers, Larissa and Gennadi Saveliev. Conducted through annual regional competitions throughout the U.S. and abroad (Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and Italy), YAGP is the “internet of the dance world,” a global network of opportunity connecting dancers, teachers, schools and companies all over the globe. Each year, YAGP culminates with a Final Round in New York City and a Gala performance. This year we have moved to the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center to accommodate greater audience demand. Since its inception, 25,000 young dancers have participated in YAGP worldwide competitions and workshops, over $2 million dollars have been awarded in scholarships to the world’s leading dance schools, and over 250 YAGP Alumni are now dancing with some 50 companies around the globe, including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg, and many others. For the first time in a number of years, i will skip them all together.

Me too. Decent initial cast of announced stars (subject to cancellation) but the thought of hearing 1,000s of screaming tweens and teens reacting to every stupid jump keeps me home.

Torn again...Do I go to YAGP gala and Makarova gala (I can survive screaming teens for this, though last time I attended one of these, it was the noisy Russians next to me who wouldn't be quiet), or do I stay with my original plan to visit Detroit and see another ABT alum &co., and attend the Toronto documentary FF which might help my other project? Aaarrrgh, I hate these decisions.

What a fantastic event put on by YAGP! A truly mesmerizing and enchanting evening at Lincoln Center with the legendary Natalia Marakova (I'll just pretend that there was no one else in attendance :0 ). The spectacular performance was breathtaking and expertly executed as one would expect when honoring a bonafide industry superstar. The captivated audience surrounding me seemed mostly local and was highly respectful as the hall was nothing short of pin-drop quiet throughout the performance with the exception of well deserved eruptions of energized applause when the moment(s) so called for. I hope the commenters above ultimately decided to join us as the performances by this group of stage talent and the reception which followed were undeniably nothing short of unforgettable.

If I had only one word to describe the overall experience it would be -- MAGNIFICENT!

Bravo YAGP!
