I was just looking at the Kennedy Center site and saw that Alexandra (Tomalonis), the founder of Ballet Alert!, will be speaking at the Terrace Gallery as part of the Ballet 360 series on 1 October at 3pm. Her topic is: "What Ballet Does Best I: Glamour".

Her second presentation will be "What Ballet Does Best II: Exotic Dreams" on 14 Jan 2012 at 3pm (Terrace Gallery).

The third presentation will be "What Ballet Does Best III: Ah, to be Human" on 5 May 2012 at 3pm (Terrace Gallery)

The fourth and final part of the series on "What Ballet Does Best IV: Pursuit of Perfection" on 23 June at 3pm in the Atrium.

I'm sure she'll do a stellar job, but even without knowing her, I would be intrigued by the title of the series. I've spent a good deal of time talking with friends and colleagues about what ballet does and doesn't do well -- what a great jumping off point for those individual topics!

Thank you, Helene (and for your comment, Sandik). I've been doing these for four years now -- 4 lectures a season, keyed, at least loosely, to what the Kennedy Center is presenting. Some topics or questions have been suggested by the regulars.

It's fun, not very expensive, and I invite anyone who reads these boards and lives in the area to attend! It's fun to meet Ballet Alertniks!

Are the lectures streamed over the internet?

These should be streamed, like the Guggenheim presentations.

Well, then they wouldn't be as much fun, because I'd have to be more guarded :)
