Beginning March 28, users who have neither a print subscription or a digital subscription to the New York Times
or The International Herald Tribune
will be allowed up to 20 articles a month free of charge for accessing the site directly, after which they will be prompted to purchase one of the three digital subscription options.
The Times will allow access to people who arrive at its Web site through search engines like Google and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. There will, however, be a five-article limit a day for people who visit the site from Google.
