rg Posted February 28, 2011 Share Posted February 28, 2011 the scanned NYCB publicity photo presumably documenting the First Regiment of Balanchine's 1958 STARS AND STRIPES, as led by Allegra Kent, has little information on the back except that it was meant to be used as publicity for the company's perhaps 1959 tour to LA's Greek Theatre, which CHOREOGRAPHY BY BALANCHINE says was made Jul 27 - Aug 8; the dates Jul 27 thru Aug 1 and "Greek Theatre" are stamped on the back [no year given]. an amusing aspect of the photo's past is its filing by a previous owner, who identified the work as STARS AND STRIKES. the photo itself is not unfamiliar, but even in this faded print, it's easy to scrutinize and note the stage-hand? (or perhaps lighting designer Ronald Bates?)caught standing on the back as well as the one dancer wearing soft shoes for the photo call. Link to comment
