Moscow's Bolshoi Theater in distress

1 post in this topic

the following scans show two engraving-style illustrations from an unknown English publication documenting a fire in Moscow's Bolshoi Theater.

wikipedia notes the following:

<< A fire in 1853 caused extensive damage; reconstruction was carried out by Alberto Cavos, son of Catterino Cavos, an opera composer.>>

(A. Cavos was also the designer of Petersburg's Maryinsky Theater, opened in 1860.)

such devastation often makes for dramatic graphic work.
