Time to begin to plan and save our pennies for the next great reconstruction of a Petipa work -- it's the 1898 RAYMONDA, to be staged by Sergei Vikharev, in Milan! Details below, from the La Scala web, but it appears that even the sets & costumes will be restored. Wow.

Thanks for posting this Natalia! Hope to see you there! I've never been to La Scala.
Every year I've been hoping to see Raymonda at the Mariinsky Festival.
It doesn't look like it's ever going to happen there. (Especially a reconstruction of it).

Indeed, chiapuris. Best of all: It's even easier to get to Italy than to Russia for a short vacation...Look Ma, NO VISAS!

(And considering La Scala ballet has released videos of Swan Lake, Giselle, Midsummer Night's Dream and La Bayadere in recent years, it's not out of the realm of possibility.)

How ironic that the biggest Petipa event in 2011 will not happen in St. Petersburg or even in Russia. St P seems to prefer the likes of Nacho Duato as head of the Mikhailovsky and - to add insult to injury - Preljocaj's LE PARC (Vishneva vanity project?) as the centerpiece of the next Mariinsky Ballet Festival in April.
So it's Milan all the way for vacation plans.

Going to Milan? it won't be simple, a friend went to see Sylvie Guillem there last week and told me the tickets cost a fortune and when he booked he was expected to give his passport number as security. To me that is outrageous, what right has a *!*!ing theatre got to ask for someone's passport number just to book a ticket? I was seriously thinking of going to see this, but after being told about La Scala's methods I've changed my mind.

The opening is still set for the following Monday, Oct 11, starring Novikova, Cote and Murru. This will be Vikharev's reconstruction of the 1898 Petipa original, using the Sergeyev Notebooks of Harvard University. The 1898 Imperial Mariinsky sets & costumes are also being recreated.
Now that we know that La Scala Ballet's AD, Vaziyev, is staying put in Milan (not going to Moscow to take over the Bolshoi Ballet), everything should proceed as originally scheduled. Whew!

The preview conference is thus moved up to September 27. Six performances over 6 ddays (matinee & evening perfs on the 5th).
Ticket sales still begin on July 27.
Novikova still scheduled to dance 4 of 7 performances, including the premiere. Guillaume Cote no longer listed as a guest performer. Massimo Murru still on.
