A recent Wall St. Journal article on Nacho Duato's departure from CND, the Spanish government's ideas about it, and reactions from Angel Corella, Tamara Rojo et.al.

The obtuseness of government bureaucrats never ceases to amaze me. Let's hope the public outcry and continued exodus of talent may enlighten them.

PS. Have known about some of the behind-the-scenes proposals etc. for a few months now, but didn't want to say anything until documented/publications appeared. (And to comply with BT well-reasoned editorial rules.)

Getting more funding shouldn't be too difficult' date=' given his reputation and powerful backers like the Spanish royal family. "Angel Corella is an important name, a name that sells," says Mr. Arroyo. "There's no reason why money should be a problem. I think his bigger challenge is to maintain the high quality he has shown us so far."[/quote']

Is this man really living in Spain? I know he is and he is suposed to know a lot about dance but I can't believe what I'm reading. Does he really think that support will be given because of his name and prestige? Why now? when he has got so few for the time being. Will the law change so that people will get tax decreases because of giving funds to arts as it happens for instance in the USA? What will encourage donors in these times of crisis if they haven’t done it so far?

“Powerful brackets”? Spanish royal family? ….. He is dreaming....

Ángel is right. The very best option would have been to keep the CND as it was and give more funds to Corella Ballet Castilla y León that has already demonstrated its quality and ability to dance a wide repertoire.

Let's wait and see. I truly hope the CBCL is able to keep on growing in this so strange country Spain is.
