Mme. Hermine...I'm moved...THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS CLIP! An incomplete jewelry box of the Cuban National Ballet is right there. Lovely the initial presentation of the "Four Jewels"...Yuyi of course always the best Taglioni. What a shame that the banned "Three Graces"-(Charin, Ofe and Amparito)-didn't get to be there. But one day...one day will the COMPLETE history of the CNB be told...with no omissions...

To all of them...plus the absent ones... :blushing:

What a touching tribute to the retired ballerinas. (I especially admire the dancer in the long white gown, second from left in the opening pose. Very grand and gracious.) Cristian, help us out with the identifications. Which dancer is which?

No wonder, bart...Mme. Mendez was a real LADY in every sense...her whole demeanor exuded such CLASS!

I love finding things like that. A look at the NY Times article from 1978 tells me that I saw at least some of those ladies; the cast for Giselle at the Met is listed as Alicia Alonso, Jorge Esquivel, Antonio Gades, Clara Carranco, Hugo Guffanti, Loipa Araujo, Jose Zamorano, Raul Bustabad, Aurora Bosch, Rosario Suarez, Amparo Brito and company. :blushing:

I can clearly see the influence of Alonso in the performances of ALL the ladies---Alonso in her youth could not be topped as Taglioni--the ladies had the wonderful period style Alonso brought to the piece; my highest compliment, they all looked like a bunch of Alonsos dancing. It brought back so many memories of the young Alonso.

Totally true...not until Rosario Suarez came along in the picture were all the ballerinas sort of "Alonsonized"...particularly Mme. Mendez.

-Alonso in her youth could not be topped as Taglioni-

Amen.

And to honor that comment...

Grisi-Hayden.

Taglioni-Alonso

Grahn-Kaye

Cerrito-Slavenska.
