Messmer promoted to ABT soloist

SIMONE MESSMER PROMOTED TO SOLOIST

WITH AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE

Simone Messmer has been promoted to Soloist with American Ballet Theatre. The promotion, effective January 1, 2010, was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Simone Messmer began studying dance at the age of nine at Ballet Arts Minnesota. At 14, she continued her training at the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida and resumed her training at Ballet Arts Minnesota two years later under the direction of Bonnie Mathis. Messmer participated in American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive Program in 2001 and joined ABT’s Studio Company (now ABT II) in the same year.

In August 2002, Messmer became an apprentice in the main Company and was appointed as a member of the corps de ballet in January 2003. Her repertoire with the Company includes a Lead D’Jampe and a Shade in La Bayadère, a Stepsister in Cinderella, an Odalisque in Le Corsaire, the pas de deux in Dark Elegies, a flower girl in Don Quixote, Myrta and Moyna in Giselle, Olga in On the Dnieper, a Gypsy in Petrouchka, Clemence in Raymonda, a Harlot in Romeo and Juliet, the Fairy of Valor in The Sleeping Beauty, the pas de trois and Lead Czardas in Swan Lake and roles in Airs, Baker’s Dozen, Ballo della Regina, Company B, Désir, Overgrown Path, Petite Mort, Sinfonietta, Some Assembly Required, Theme and Variations and Within You Without You: A Tribute to George Harrison.

Messmer created roles in Everything Doesn’t Happen at Once and From Here On Out.
