Staatsballett Berlin Soloist Krenstetter Will be Featured in Tarantella,

while Orlando Ballet Principal Tovar Takes a Turn in Who Cares?

February 5, 2008 -- Los Angeles Ballet [LAB] will welcome guest artists Rainer Krenstetter and Eddy Tovar for select performances at the Freud Theater during its spring repertoire, LAB Artistic Directors Thordal Christensen and Colleen Neary announced today.

Krenstetter, a soloist with Staatsballett Berlin, returns for a third time with LAB and will perform Tarantella pas de deux. Also, Orlando Ballet Principal Dancer Eddy Tovar will dance a leading role in Who Cares? with the Company. Both dancers will perform at UCLA's Freud Theater on February 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. (please see full performance schedule below).

The much-anticipated spring repertoire, which takes place at venues across Los Angeles February 22-March 15, features celebrated works of George Balanchine and a world premiere by Los Angeles Ballet's Melissa Barak.

Los Angeles Ballet presents Four Temperaments, Tarantella and Who Cares? The Four Temperaments is an epic Balanchine masterpiece set to a grand Hindemith score. The delightful, energetic pas de deux of Tarantella by Balanchine is danced to music by Louis Morreau Gottschalk reconstructed and orchestrated by Hershey Kay. Balanchine's Who Cares?, featuring a full corps de ballet, is scored to traditional American music by George Gershwin adapted and orchestrated by Hershey Kay. In addition, Los Angeles Ballet's Melissa Barak, who has choreographed for New York City Ballet, will debut an original ballet.

About Eddy Tovar

Eddy Tovar received his ballet training at the Cuban National Ballet School. In 1997, he won the Gold Medal in the Alicia Alonso Ballet Competition and in 1998 he was awarded the Juan Poix Award in Brazil. His talents also earned him a Gold Medal at the Youth American Grand Prix. Eddy joined Orlando Ballet in 1999 and danced his first principal role as Frantz in Coppelia in 2000. Since then he has performed many principal roles including lead roles in La Fille Mal Gardee, Don Quixote, Camelot and Spartacus as well as pieces of Contemporary and Balanchine. In 2006, He was a finalist at the International Ballet Competitions in New York City, Helsinki and Jackson, MS. This is Eddy's ninth season with Orlando Ballet. He is 25.

About Rainer Krenstetter, Staatsballett Berlin

Born in Vienna, Austria, Rainer Krenstetter is an accomplished soloist with the Staatsballett Berlin and returns as a featured guest artist with Los Angeles Ballet. He began his dance training at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School and Royal Ballet School in London. Since then he has received the highest honors in some of the world's most prestigious competitions including First Place ÖTR-Contest / Vienna (1997); Silver medal / Brazil (1998); Special Prize / Grand Prix Luxembourg (1999); and First Prize / Prix de Lausanne (1999).

Krenstetter has performed in a variety of leading roles throughout his career with both the Vienna State Opera Ballet and Staatsballett Berlin. He is a frequent guest artist with companies throughout the world, most recently with the National Ballet of Ireland as well as Los Angeles Ballet with whom he performed most recently as the Prince Cavalier in The Nutcracker as well as during the LAB's spring 2007 program, "New Beginnings."
