The following just reached my e-mail from Lincoln Center: Subscriptions are on sale now for the magnificent 2008/2009 Great Performers season, which embraces new directions, exciting projects and stirring concerts. This season we add a literary focus with New Visions: The Literary Muse, featuring theatrical and musical interpretations of literary works. Another season highlight is Russian Dreams, an unprecedented nine-part survey of the works of Russian 20th-century master Sergei Prokofiev, led by conductor Valery Gergiev and featuring both the Kirov Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre and the London Symphony Orchestra. The series also includes the New York City premiere of Mark Morris' newest full-length dance work, Romeo & Juliet, On Motifs of Shakespeare, commissioned by Lincoln Center and performed by the Mark Morris Dance Group. It will be interesting to see what motivs Mr. Morris chooses to choreograph, and how they compare to the motivs selected by Mr. Martins et al. Will there be a slap? will his version be in three acts? will there be a unit set? will R+J - er - R&J be nude? will Tybalt be costumed as a Colorado potato beetle? Mark the date on your calendars! drb Posted May 28, 2008 Share Posted May 28, 2008 Tickets for the Mark Morris version of Romeo and Juliet in Lincoln Center for May 14-17, 2009 (yes, a long wait till we finally get to see it!) went on sale to the general public today. They've already been sold to series subscribers and to contributors with priority, so, a word of warning... Prices run from $30 - $90, and I notice that, specifically, some really good ones remain in the $30 range. They specify seats and highlight where they are on a map. Bravo! Also on sale today are the many performances of Maestro Gergiev, with both his orchestras.
