Don't Miss Free Performances of Don Quixote

at Miller Outdoor Theatre This Weekend!

Houston Ballet will perform Ben Stevenson's Don Quixote, a passionate tale of young love, this weekend (May 11-13) at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Full of gravity-defying leaps and intricate footwork, this ballet is sure to entertain the entire family.

"Missing Six Flags AstroWorld's Texas Cyclone roller coaster? May I suggest a night at the ballet?" enthused Houston Chronicle dance critic Molly Glentzer in her review of Don Quixote in June 2006. "When its lead dancers are 'on,' no production is more of a bravura joy ride than Don Quixote."

The shows run from Friday, May 11 through Sunday, May 13, with all performances beginning at 8pm. On Friday night, first soloist Randy Herrera will perform the male lead of Basilio, partnering principal dancer Sara Webb in the role of Kitri. Herrera has received rave reviews for his portrayal of Basilio from the Houston Chronicle: "To the end of every series of dazzling leaps, spins or nearly horizontal barrel turns, he injects some added flourish at the last second, like a lightning bolt, so it looks effortless. As Basilio, he's also got the perfect blend of handsome looks, macho pride (whoo that arched back), and boyish mischief."

On Saturday, May 12, soloist Connor Walsh will partner principal Amy Fote as Kitri for the first time. Reviewing Mr. Walsh's performance as Basilio, Arts Houston observed in its July 2006 edition, "With his princely good looks, impeccable technique, and flair for acting, Walsh established himself as one to watch." They also praised Ms. Fote, noting "Amy Fote showcased that dazzling mix of fire and ice that is Kitri's choreography, plus a sense of affectionate comedy that won over the audience completely."

And on Sunday, May 13, Mr. Herrera will perform opposite principal dancer Leticia Oliveira as Kitri.

While performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre are free of charge, Houston Ballet performances require tickets to the seated area. Tickets are available on the day of the performance from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Miller Theatre Box Office. Any tickets remaining are distributed one hour before curtain.
