Jurgita Dronina

Recommended Posts

Jurgita Dronina is one of the best dancers I have seen!!! She's 20 years old and right now in the corp de ballet of the Royal Swedish Ballet. But only during the 2006-2007 season she has already danced two major lead roles.

In september last year she danced Nikiya in la Bayadère for the first time. And this spring she is dancing the role of Juliet in Kenneth Macmillans Romeo and Juliet for the first time.

I think Jurgita is amazing. Her techinque is gorgeous and she's beautiful on stage. :jawdrop:

This is a dancer you have to see!!! She's going to be a great ballerina (I think) !

Wow! Thanks for introducing us to a dancer at a point when she is just beginning what might be a major career. I hope you'll be able to report on her Juliet, and on R&J in general, when it's performed. Your post really reminds me what how international the Ballet Talk forum is. Many of us have seen this version of the ballet on other stages, in other countries, and on video. Dronina is joining a long, very distiinguished line of Juliets over the decades. :shake:

Jurgita won a medal (silver or bronze) at the 2005 Moscow IBC, jr division. Gold was shared by Christina Shevchenko of the USA & Chinara Alizade of the Bolshoi....just seen here in DC as the 2nd Bridesmaid in Don Q. It was a very tough competition & many thought that Jurgita, too, deserved a gold. Glad to read that she is progressing so nicely.

Hi Natalia,

Actually Jurgita has won a series of medals in competitions. Because of her birthday, she was one of the youngest seniors in Moscow, where she won a silver (hardly older than Christine and Chinara); Helsinki, where she won a silver; and Jackson, where she won a silver. She is originally from Lithuania. I've never seen her dance in person but I have seen a video of her at Jackson and she is fantastic.

Ciao

Hi Rosie,

You could purchase videos of the classical rounds of the Jackson IBC. It is ordered through the Jackson web page. So I saw those videos of each of her rounds. She is an unusually expressive dancer with lots of technique too.
